Dr. Cathy Hajo, director of the Jane Addams Papers at Ramapo College of New Jersey, spoke about child labor resurgence in Slate Magazine. Child labor violations have quadrupled since 2015. Parallels are being drawn between the treatment of today’s migrant children and those from post-Civil War freed families. Addams was a prominent social worker and activist in turn-of-the-century Chicago, and many of the children she worked with and advocated for were immigrants.
