MAHWAH, N.J. – “Healing Hospitals: Advancing Sustainability in Healthcare” is the topic of the lecture scheduled for Wednesday, January 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Friends Hall at Ramapo College.

The lecture is sponsored by the College’s Masters in Sustainability Studies Program and is being held in partnership with the BSN/MSM Nursing Programs. The event is free and open to the public.

The guest speaker is Ramapo alumnus Kyle Tafuri, Senior Sustainability Adviser at Hackensack University Medical Center. In his talk, Tafuri will discuss the challenges of establishing and achieving sustainable practices in a large healthcare setting. Tafuri and his “green team” have made impressive inroads at HUMC, including the changes in water conservation, medical waste education, recycling efforts and the creation of a sustainable rooftop garden. The team’s efforts have garnered several environmental excellence awards and helped establish the medical center as one of the top 25 “green” hospitals in the country.
