Ramapo College Presents Spring 2016 Italian Language Film Series

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Salameno School of Humanities and Global Studies at Ramapo College presents the lineup for its Italian Language Film Series for the Spring 2016 semester. The films, in conjunction with the Italian Cinema course, will be shown on select Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in ASB-136. Discussions will follow the screenings. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Italian Language Film Series offers Ramapo students an opportunity to experience the innovations that Italian cinema has contributed to the art of movie-making, while also allowing students the option of fulfilling their CEC components. The series, which features iconic directors such as Roberto Rossellini, Frederico Fellini, Giuseppe Tornatore and Paolo Sorrentino, allows students to experience the Italian language through film, immersing them in a more visual and interactive method of learning that will aid their overall understanding of Italian.

The films and dates are as follows:

January 27Rome, Open City (Roma Citta Aperta, 1945) directed by Roberto Rossellini; features Aldo Fabrizi and Anna Magnani; set in Rome during the Nazi occupation in 1944.

February 10 – La Strada (1954) directed by Federico Fellini; stars Anthony Quinn, Guiletta Masina and Richard Basehart.

February 24Seduced and Abandoned (1963) directed by Pietro Germi Agnese; stars Saro Urzi, Stefania Sandrelli and Aldo Puglisi.

March 9Amarcord (1974) directed by Federico Fellini; stars Magali Noel, Bruno Zanin, Pupella Maggio, Maria Antoinietta Beluzzi and Armando Brancia.

March 23Cinema Paradiso (1990) directed by Giuseppe Tornatore; stars Salvatore Cascio, Phillippe Noiret, Marco Leonardo, Jacques Perrin and Agnese Nano.

April 6Benvenuti Al Sud (Welcome to the South, 2010) directed by Luca Miniero; cast includes Claudio Bisio, Angela Finocchiaro, Valentina Lodovini, Alessandro Siani and Giacomo Rizzo.

April 20La Giovinezza (Youth, 2015) directed by Paolo Sorrentino; stars Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano and Jane Fonda.
