Ramapo College Presents 12th Annual Sebastian J. Raciti Memorial Lecture with Economist Charles Steindel

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Sabrin Center for Free Enterprise at Ramapo College of New Jersey will present the 12th Annual Raciti Memorial Lecture on Thursday, October 5. The lecture, titled “The Federal Reserve at the Crossroads,” will be held in the Trustees Pavilion at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The Raciti Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Ramapo College economics major prior to the lecture.

The keynote speaker is Charles Steindel, Resident Scholar at the Anisfield School of Business at Ramapo College, and editor of Business Economics. He was formerly Chief Economist at the New Jersey Department of the Treasury, with responsibility for economics and revenue projections and analysis of state economic policy. He came to the Treasury after a long career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where he played a leading role in forecasting and policy advice, and attended Federal Open Market Committee meetings.

In 2011, Steindel received the William F. Butler Award from the New York Association for Business Economics. He is a member of the panel for the Survey of Professional Forecasters and the Committee on Research in Income and Wealth, and he has published in fields across a wide range of areas. He received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The annual event was established to honor the memory of Sebastian J. Raciti (1934-2003), who, for 31 years, served in various roles that were instrumental in the development of Ramapo College.  Known as Sib, he was a member of the founding faculty and arrived in the College’s second year.

Refreshments and registration will begin at 7 p.m.; welcome remarks and presentation of the Raciti Memorial Scholarship is at 7:30 p.m.; lecture begins at 8 p.m.
