Ramapo College Hosts First Annual High School Film Festival

MAHWAH, N.J. – More than 50 student filmmakers from around the state showcased their talents at the first annual High School Film Festival, recently hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey.

Students entered original films in a variety of genres and were awarded in several categories including editing, cinematography, documentary and fiction. In all, 24 student films were screened and judged by a panel of Ramapo College faculty. Each entrant was awarded an Oscar-type statuette. Five top films were presented with a plaque and gift card.

The top winners were:

Best fiction film: Vincent D’Alessandro (Randolph High School, Randolph), “Squishy Squishy”

Best editing: Katrin Spridinova (Rutherford High School, Rutherford), “Heart”

Best cinematography: IHA Broadcast Media Class (Immaculate Heart Academy, Washington Township), “Noir Files”

Best documentary: Kiera Clowney and Victoria Flynn (Clearview Regional High School, Mullica Hill), “Student Loan Debt”

Best of the Fest: Matthew Rosa (Charter-Tech High School for the Performing Arts, Somers Point), “Oscar Micheaux”
