MAHWAH, N.J. – Ramapo College men will be donning high heels for a good cause. On Tuesday, October 13 from noon to 1 p.m. members of the College fraternities and men’s athletics teams will walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes to raise awareness about sexual violence. Ramapo College student James Perlas and a representative from healingSPACE Sexual Violence Resource Center of Bergen County will speak before the walk.

Also on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be the healingSPACE Clothesline Project comprised of tee-shirts designed by survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

This event is part of the Green Dot Campaign at Ramapo College. This campaign encourages individuals to engage in safe bystander intervention and challenging attitudes tolerant of interpersonal violence, such as calling out people who make jokes about rape and assault. Each positive act that prevents violence is a green dot. The goal is to create a culture where green dots overpower red dots (acts of violence.)

Donations will be collected for the healingSPACE Sexual Violence Resource Center.

This event is sponsored by the Ramapo College Women’s Center and supported by: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, Brothers Making A Difference, healingSPACE Sexual Violence Resource Center, Interfraternity Council, Active Minds, Counseling Services, G.E.A.R, the Public Safety Department, Ramapo Athletics and Ramapo Pride.

For more information, contact Kat McGee, coordinator of the Women’s Center at Ramapo College, at 201-684-7136.
