(Mahwah) – “A Chicken’s Dream of Flight,” an hour-long adventure in dance/theater and puppetry choreographed by Ariane Anthony, will be performed in the Sharp Theater at Ramapo College of New Jersey Friday, December 8 at 7 p.m.

Inspired by the stories of Eastern European immigrants from the early part of the 20th century, this talented group of dancers, puppeteers and musicians weave poetic dance/theater tales of life and dreams, tracing one woman’s encounter with her own life and dreams from childhood to old age. Three generations of characters appear and disappear through mobile walls and doorways, designed by Peter Wahlberg.

The piece is set to a vibrant original musical score by composer John Stone. Song texts by Wassily Kandinsky and e.e. cummings are performed live by soprano Joan Anthony. Lighting designed by Sarah Sidman magically transforms the stage to a subtly shifting dream landscape. Jennifer Dunning of The New York Times called the work “charming, poignant, and filled with imagination.”

Ariane Anthony’s playful, character-driven solo and group works of dance/theater and puppetry have been presented in New York City by Joyce SoHo, New Dance Alliance, Mulberry Street Theater, the Schoenberg Dancycle, Mary Anthony Dance Theatre, Pentacle, Dance Ceres and Red Dive. Anthony is an artistic affiliate of The Construction Company, which has presented her choreography in Belgium and New York. She performed and toured with Cornfield Dance and Mary Anthony Dance Theatre before forming Ariane Anthony & Company in March 1999. In addition to her broad-ranging training in dance, Anthony has intensively studied clown and commedia dell’arte mask techniques and is the assistant director and choreographer of The New York Mask and Clown Workshop.

The Sharp Theater is located in Ramapo College’s Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts. Tickets are: $12 general admission; $8 seniors; $5 students. For more information, please call (201) 684-7888.
