MAHWAH  – The New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA) awarded Ramapo College of New Jersey the 2008 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award in recognition of Ramapo’s success at creating a psychologically healthy work environment.   Ramapo College is one of three recipients of the award in New Jersey.  Winners of the New Jersey award are eligible to be nominated for the national award through the American Psychological Association; the college has been nominated for both a Best Practice award as well as the National Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award.

To be considered for the designation, businesses and organizations must have instituted programs, policies and procedures that foster employee health and well-being that directly enhance organizational performance.

According to NJPA, work stress and family issues can affect an employee’s ability to cope, which may lead to absenteeism, higher health care costs, turnover and lost productivity.  The Psychologically Health Workplace Award honors New Jersey companies and organizations that demonstrate a commitment to their employees, not only in the area of individual mental and physical health services, but also offer opportunities for employee communications and involvement; employee and family support services; opportunities for employee growth, development, and advancement; and health and safety.
