(Mahwah) – The New Jersey Regional Philosophical Association will hold its fall conference Saturday, November 3 at Ramapo College of New Jersey.  The daylong conference, which begins at 9 a.m. and ends with a reception at 5 p.m., is open to the public.  There is a fee of $10, which includes the program, lunch and a wine and cheese reception.  Philosophy scholars and those who have a keen interest in philosophy are welcome to attend.

Dr. Dmitri Nikulin, professor of philosophy at The New School for Social Research and author of On Dialogue, will deliver the plenary lecture at 1 p.m., “Interruption and Dialogue.”  Nikulin’s book explores the necessity of dialogue to being. He contends that dialogue is not just a form of communication and in his book he provides a systematic account of dialogue and its role in philosophy, literature and oral discourse.

Dr. Lisa Cassidy, an associate professor of philosophy at Ramapo College, will moderate the lecture.  She, along with Dr. Bernard Roy, an assistant professor of philosophy there, are conference coordinators.

The meeting is organized in morning and afternoon breakout sessions.  At each session, philosophers (faculty and students) will present a paper.  A commentator (faculty or student) will respond.  Time will be allotted for questions and answers from the audience.

The NJRPA is a professional organization serving New Jersey college and university philosophy faculty.  Members of Ramapo College’s Philosophy Club will help plan the conference.
