Scholar to Speak at Ramapo College’s Mexico: Transborder Crime and Governance Lecture

(MAHWAH, NJ) – Keynote speaker, Pablo Piccato, professor of History at Columbia University, will speak at Ramapo College’s Mexico: Transborder Crime and Governance Lecture alongside a panel on Thursday, November 8 from 11:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. in B-224. Piccato will begin the lecture with an initial address on the topic following an opportunity for panelist members, Associate Professor of International Studies Erick Castellanos and Assistant Professor of Sociology Paul Reck from Ramapo College, to respond and follow up with questions. An interactive Q & A session will take place following the panel discussion. This lecture is part of the larger Global Challenges Lecture Series sponsored by the Roukema Center for International Education.

Piccato has performed research on the political and cultural history of Mexico and on the history of crime. In addition, he has authored the book “The Tyranny of Opinion: Honor in the Construction of the Mexican Public Sphere.” Piccato is currently working on an overview of crime in Mexico during the twentieth century.

Castellanos has conducted research about international migration, culture and international relations among other issues. Reck primarily conducts research and teaches issues connected to race and the criminal justice system.

There are briefing books and a DVD set that supports this lecture and is available in the George T. Potter Library for those who would like to further their knowledge on this topic.
