(MAHWAH, NJ) – Economic expert and author Joseph Calandro Jr. will discuss Valuation and Uncertainty: Investing in an Age of Economic Distress at the seventh annual Sebastian J. Raciti Memorial Lecture and Reception at the Ramapo College of New Jersey in November. The lecture will be followed by a book signing.

Calandro is the author of “Applied Value Investing” (McGraw-Hill, 2009). He is also the Enterprise Risk Manager of a global financial services firm and a finance department faculty member of the University of Connecticut where he designed and taught MBA courses on value investing and risk management. He was previously a financial consultant with IBM Global Business Services. He has published widely in journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, the Journal of Alternative Investments, Strategy and Leadership, and a number of others.

“Over the past few years we have experienced cataclysmic financial events; bank collapses and bailouts, European debt crises, and a property market meltdown,” said Gladys Torres-Baumgarten, director of the Sabrin Center for Free Enterprise. “This is clearly an age of economic uncertainty. We are pleased to have Mr. Calandro discuss investment strategies during these challenging times.” The Raciti Memorial lecture is sponsored by the Center.

The annual event was established to honor the memory of Sebastian J. Raciti (1934-2003), who, for 31 years, served in various roles that were instrumental in the development of Ramapo College.  Known as Sib, he was a member of the founding faculty and arrived in the College’s second year.

Valuation and Uncertainty: Investing in an Age of Economic Distress will be presented on Thursday, November 4 in the Trustees Pavilion on campus.  The lecture begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a reception and book signing. The public is invited to attend the lecture and reception; there is no fee for attending the event. Reservations are required; please call 201.684.7096 or e-mail sabrincenter@ramapo.edu no later than October 28.
