(MAHWAH) – Larry and Paulette’s Funhouse: Selections from the Brill Collection will open in the Pascal Gallery at Ramapo College of New Jersey on Thursday, September 10, and continue through October 16. A preview reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, and a talk by Brooke Anderson, Director of the Contemporary Center, American Folk Art Museum, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The eclectic exhibition is comprised of works by numerous self-taught artists and extends to include examples of American folk and vernacular art. Larry Brill has said that his love of collecting began with a 25-cent art purchase at the age of 8.  Now, he and his wife, Paulette Weiss, have launched themselves whole-heartedly into the world of collecting.

The exhibition includes artists such as Howard Finster, Mose Tolliver, Lee Godie, Jimmie Lee Suddith, S.L. Jones, the Philadelphia Wireman, Lorenzo Scott, Clementine Hunter, Purvis Young, the Baltimore Glassman, Mr. Imagination, and Dr. Chill. Additionally, unusual hand-made toys and other anonymous objects from Brill’s massive folk collection are presented.

Brill has a background in fine arts, and studied at the Parsons School of Design, the Brooklyn Museum and the School of Visual Arts. He is a sought-after graphic designer and co-owner of the B&W Creative Group in New York City.

This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Pascal Gallery is located in the Berrie Center for the Performing and Visual Arts at Ramapo College. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 1 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 201-684-7147.
