(MAHWAH, NJ) – Ramapo College of New Jersey is again one of the best colleges and universities in the Northeast according to The Princeton Review. The New York City-based education services company selected the school as one of 218 institutions it recommends in its “Best in the Northeast” section on its PrincetonReview.com feature 2011 Best Colleges Region by Region. It also profiles the school in its book,” The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2011 Edition.”
Ramapo College was selected by The Princeton Review based on data collected from several hundred schools in each region, visits to schools, student surveys and the opinions of independent and high school-based college advisors. Regional best colleges represent a range of institutions that vary by size, selectivity, character and locale. The 623 colleges named in 2011 Best Colleges Region by Region represent about 25 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges.
The Princeton Review asks students to rate their own schools on several issues – from the accessibility of their professors to quality of campus food – and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and campus life.
“We’re pleased to recommend Ramapo College of New Jersey to readers of our book and users of our site as one of the best schools to earn their undergrad degree,” said Robert Franek, the Review’s senior vice president of Publishing. “From several hundred schools in each region, we winnowed our list based on institutional data we collected directly from the schools, our visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of our staff, plus college counselors and advisors whose recommendations we invite. We also take into account what students at the schools reported to us about their campus experiences on our 80-question student survey for this project.”
In the surveys, Ramapo students praised smaller size of classes, “hands-on experience” of Ramapo’s experiential learning requirements and found the College is a “great bargain.” Students also said many professors “have a passion for teaching,” are “dedicated to their students” and “very accessible.” They also praised the modern residence halls and the “beautiful and quiet location.”
