(MAHWAH, NJ) – Ramapo College hosted the first Mr. and Ms. Roadrunner 2012 recently, co-sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), the College Programming Board (CPB), the Inter Greek Senate (IGS), and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Students Dan Kropa ’14, of Freehold Township, NJ, was named Mr. Roadrunner and Cait Bragg ’13, of Middletown, NJ, was crowned Ms. Roadrunner.

Designed to create a sense of community and build school spirit and pride, the event featured eight student candidates whom embodied school spirit/pride, were involved in the Ramapo community as student leaders, and had a GPA of 2.5 or greater.  The students were selected to participate by a committee comprised of members of the SGA, CPB, IGS, and SAAC.

“This inaugural event was very successful…” said Mr. and Ms. Roadrunner Committee Chair Clifton Shambry ’12, of Millville, NJ.  “We wanted students from different facets across campus to come together and just have old fashioned fun.  They did, along with the audience, judges, committee and hosts, throughout the evening.”

Candidates participated in a series of three competitions: Talent, Semi-Formal, and Wow-Wear.  Candidates were judged in each of these three areas, making up 80 percent of the determination of the winners.

The other 20 percent was determined by the candidates’ collection of funds for the charity of their choice and through an audience vote during the night of the event.  The event raised a total of $214.90 and was divided between the Kropa and Bragg’s respective charities, EcoHealth Alliance and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
