Ramapo’s Campus to be Transformed for World Expo Day

(MAHWAH, NJ) – Experience all the world has to offer without the expense of a pricey plane ticket!  As part of the Student Engagement Initiative, Ramapo College will host World Expo Day on Wednesday, May 2 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  As an end of the year celebration, the campus will be transformed into different regions of the world.

The all-campus event will celebrate five areas of the world: Asia & the Pacific, the Americas, Africa, and Europe include events and activities such as music performances, traditional dance, cultural activities, and student presentations. 

Events include:

Asia & the Pacific:
Asian Character Workshop: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Outside Trustees Pavilion)
Tinikling Dance Exhibition: 2 p.m. (Outside Trustees Pavilion)
Dragonboat display: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Outside Trustees Pavilion)
Henna: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Outside Trustees Pavilion)
Polynesian BBQ: Lunch (Pavilion dining hall)
Australian Boomerang toss and Digieridoo: TBD (Bandshell)

The Americas:
Salsa Dance Class: 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. (Trustees Pavilion 1)
Traditional American Fair: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. (between Mackin and Bischoff Halls )
Spanish Showcase (Spanish classes’ final projects): 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (ASB-135)
Lenape Nation – presentation & information, Trustees Pavilion 2, 3 to 4 p.m.

Africa:
Hair Braiding: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Outside Trustees Pavilion or Bandshell area)
Zumba class: 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. (on grass in front of Trustees Pavilion by large rock)
Afro-Brazilian Drumming performance: 1 p.m. (Bandshell)

Europe:
Hungarian Dancers (Trustees Pavilion 1)
Tea Tasting: TBD (Trustees Pavilion Lobby)
Cheese Tasting: TBD (Trustees Pavilion Lobby)
STA Travel: Workshop on ‘How to Travel on the Cheap’: 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. (Trustees Pavilion 3)
Ireland event: TBD (Trustees Pavilion)

Other:
World Cup Soccer Tournament: 2 p.m. – finish (Bandshell lawn)
Cultural Concert: throughout the day at the Bandshell, Mackin and Bischoff halls, Trustees Pavilion
United Nations Speaker: TBD (Trustees Pavilion 3)
Expo Hall: 11am-5pm (Trustees Pavilion 2) – information tables on various countries of the world

All events will be held on the left side of the campus at the Bandshell, the Trustees Pavilion, Mackin/Bischoff Halls lawn or the lawn by the Anisfield School of Business building.
