Mystery Writer Valerie Wilson Wesley To Unravel “The Mystery Of Writing” In A Talk At Ramapo College

(Mahwah) — Valerie Wilson Wesley, author of the Tamara Hayle mystery series and Ain’t Nobody’s Business If Do, will speak on “The Mystery of Writing” Tuesday, April 10 at 1:15 p.m. in the Adler Theater at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Her latest mystery, The Devil Riding, was released in hardcover in June 2000, by G.P. Putnam’s. Easier to Kill (Sept 1998), No Hiding Place (Oct 1997), Where Evil Sleeps (Aug 1996), Devil’s Gonna Get Him (July 1995) and When Death Comes Stealing (June 1994), are all now available in paperback and have placed highly on several bestseller lists. They have also been published in Germany, Great Britain, France and Poland, and television and film rights for the first three books have been purchased.

Ain’t Nobody’s Business If Do (Avon Books) won the Black Caucus of the American Library Association Literary Award for Fiction in 2000. Other works include Freedom’s Gifts: A Juneteenth Story, which is a picture book for children, and the young adult novel Where Do I Go From Here (Scholastic, November l993) for which she received an ALA Best Book for Reluctant Readers citation. She is formerly executive editor and currently a contributing editor of Essence magazine.

Wesley’s fiction and nonfiction for both adults and children have appeared in many publications, including Essence, Family Circle, TV Guide, Ms, Creative Classroom, and The New York Times. She is a 1993 recipient of the Griot Award from the New York Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Admission is free. The Adler Theater is located in the Berrie Center.
