(MAHWAH, NJ) – Middle school and high school students may now register for the full-day summer academic programs offered at Ramapo College of New Jersey: the Ramapo Explorers-STEM Middle School Academic Camp, the Financial Literacy/Stock Market Trading Program, and SAT Prep. Pre-registration for upcoming March and April Information Sessions is also open. Visit www.ramapo.edu/ramapocamps to register.
The new Ramapo Explorers-STEM Middle School Academic Camp runs July 9 through 20 and focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) learning activities while having fun. The program is for middle school students entering seventh and eighth grades, and entering sixth graders may attend with a special recommendation by a teacher or guidance counselor.
The Ramapo Explorers-STEM schedule consists of several educational programs that give campers a chance to explore STEM topics in a fun and interactive environment while they advance their problem-solving, critical thinking and teamwork abilities that are a part of the new national Common Core Standards. Campers follow a schedule from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. including: Hands-on Science, Olympic Robotics, Recreation, Real World Math, iReport News, and more. Students are taught by highly qualified certified middle school teachers and are supported by trained college-age counselors who are often teacher education majors. Early drop off and late pick up are offered.
The Financial Literacy/Stock Market Trading Program for high school students utilizes the college’s Global Financial Markets Trading Laboratory in the Anisfield School of Business, which is accredited by the international Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Financial Literacy/Stock Market Trading Program runs August 6 through 10. In the mornings, 9 a.m. through Noon, participants learn about budgeting and finances to prepare them for making sound financial decisions in the future. They learn about how to save money, the positive and negative effects of using credit cards, and how to budget their personal finances that impact lifestyle choices. In the afternoons, 1 through 4 p.m., students interact with the latest software for simulated stock trading in the Trading Lab, an authentic stock market trading room complete with an electronic ticker display carrying financial data from multiple world markets. Students participate in games and competitions as they buy, sell and trade to build their own stock portfolios. No previous knowledge is necessary.
A Princeton Review SAT Prep Plus College Immersion program is also offered for entering eleventh and twelfth graders and runs July 16 through 26. It includes four proctored SATs with detailed computer analysis of the results, 11 practice tests for the SAT and PSAT, extra online lessons, special college admissions seminars, and much more.
