(Mahwah) – Jazz at the Berrie Center presents Latin Jazz Party! Bobby Sanabria and Ascension Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Mambo Kings, Bobby Sanabria, the Grammy-nominated drummer, composer and recording artist brings his nine-member ensemble to the Berrie Center for an evening of fabulous Latin jazz and salsa.
Sanabria has performed with a veritable Who’s Who in the world of jazz and Latin music, as well as with his own critically acclaimed ensemble, Ascension. His diverse recording and performing experience includes work with Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Paquito D’Rivera, Charles McPherson, Mongo Santamaría, Ray Barretto, Chico O’Farrill, Candido, Francisco Aguabella, Henry Threadgill and the Godfather of Afro-Cuban Jazz, Mario Bauzá.
The performer has become a leader in the Afro-Cuban and jazz fields as both drummer and percussionist, and is recognized as one of the most articulate scholars of la tradición.
Tickets cost $24, $20 and $15 for adults; $12 for children under 17 and a five percent discount off regular ticket prices for senior citizens. New Jersey Jazz Society and WBGO Radio members also receive a five percent discount.
