Ramapo College to Host New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children (NJCEC) Spring Conference on March 18

(MAHWAH, NJ) – On Monday, March 18, Ramapo College will host the New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children (NJCEC) Spring Conference in conjunction with the Teacher Education Program and the School of Social Science and Human Services. This event,  “Assessment and You,” will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Featured at the conference will be keynote speaker Dr. Roberta Whole, Assistant Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Education. Dr. Wohle is also the former New Jersey Director of Special Education.

In addition to the keynote address, numerous breakout sessions regarding assessment are included.  Hot topics to be discussed include the following:  CCSS/PARCC A Major Educational Change, which focuses on The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment, new technology advances with Smart Boards and I-Pad’s, App resources, strategies to work with children with special needs including Autism, Tourettes Syndrome and others, transition planning, preparing special education students for college, early childhood strategies, brain based learning, and so much more.  Also, a continental breakfast and lunch will be served.

The New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children (NJCEC) is the state representative of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
