(Mahwah) – StreetSingers, Ramapo College of New Jersey’s 15-member student group, known for their sweet harmonies and swingin’ arrangements, will present Sophisticated, Sassy Cole Porter. Under the direction of Adjunct Professor Barbara Gordon, two performances are scheduled at Ramapo’s Sharp Theater, Wednesday, February 18 and Thursday, February 19, both at 8 p.m.

Porter is known for his complex music requiring a fine level of expert voices. Sophistication is evident in Anything Goes and Kiss Me Kate. He created a pleasant sound with well-known songs such as It’s De-Lovely,” Night and Day,” I Get a Kick Out of You,” You’re the Top” and It Was Just One of Those Things.”

Founded by Gordon three years ago, StreetSingers is made up of students interested in musical theater, many of whom do not major in the performing arts. StreetSingers is about what they bring to the music in terms of presentation, stage presence and quality of voice,” says Gordon, who in addition to her directorial role also performs at the keyboard. There is music, singing, some dance and a lot of dedication. This show also will feature flute, clarinet, piano and drums.”

A record number of students auditioned for this production; of the 40 who tried out, 14 made it to the final round. They are: Darragh Cimis, Bethany K. Fustos, Joseph Halzack, Mallory Hoernig, Megan Knowlton, Lisa Kretchman, Alberto Lorenzo, Eileen Peet, Kevin Pertusiello, Jennifer Ponton, Tom Rondinaro, Susan Shaughnesse, Jenelle Christina Sosa and Jodi Stolow.

Admission for Sophisticated, Sassy Cole Porter is free. The Sharp Theater is located in the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts on the Ramapo College campus. For more information call 201.684.7844.
