(Mahwah) — Fiddler Eileen Ivers, who toured the world to great acclaim with Riverdance and Cherish the Ladies, of which she was a founding member, will bring her trademark blue violin and her band to the Sharp Theater at Ramapo College of New Jersey Friday, February 23 at 8 p.m. In a concert entitled “Crossing the Bridge,” Ivers will incorporate African, hip-hop and Spanish Flamenco, as well as Celtic into a riveting world music brew.

From her star musical turn in Riverdance and her 30-plus medals in the All-Ireland Championships to her session work and appearances with such diverse artists and ensembles as Paula Cole, the Boston Pops Orchestra and paddy Maloney, Ivers has established herself as the pre-eminent exponent of the Irish fiddle in the world today. Recently signed to an exclusive recording agreement with Sony Classical, Ivers will make her debut with the label on Back to the Titanic, an album that includes original film music not included on Titanic, new versions of pieces from James Horner’s Oscar-winning score, as well as new compositions based on Titanic themes.

A founding member of the all-woman folk group Cherish the Ladies, Ivers has toured as a featured player with such popular contemporary performers as Patti Smith, the Hothouse Flowers and Luka Bloom as well as with her own band. Her recording credits include appearances on over 60 contemporary and traditional albums. Ivers has toured throughout Europe, the United States, Russia, Japan, Australia, the Philippines, Mexico and the Caribbean, and has made numerous appearances on network television.

Born in the Irish community of the Bronx, New York, Ivers began playing fiddle at the age of eight and eventually studied with famed Limerick-born fiddler Martin Mulvihill. Along with her 30 medals, Ivers won seven All-Ireland fiddle titles and an eighth on the tenor banjo.

In addition to her participation on Back to the Titanic, Ivers will present her Irish-based fusion sound on another disc to be released on the Sony Classical label. Scheduled for this autumn, Ivers’ CD will contain traditional and original work, supported by a broad array of celebrated world-music performers including John Doyle and Seamus Egan of Solas, Bakithi Kumalo (heard on Paul Simon’s Graceland album), Joanie Madden of Cherish the Ladies, and jazz artists Eddie Gomez and Randy Brecker.

Tickets are $20 adults; $15 seniors; $10 students and children under 18. For tickets, call (201) 684-7844. The Sharp Theater is located in the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts at Ramapo College.
