(Mahwah) – Ramapo College of New Jersey was listed in the February 2007 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine as among the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.”

The ranking process places an emphasis on strong academics, as well as great value, with academic quality carrying more weight than cost. Kiplinger’s looked at more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities in the country, using measures including the percentage of freshmen scoring 600 or higher on the verbal and math components of the SAT, student/faculty ratio and graduation rates. In addition, schools were ranked based on cost and financial aid, the average cost for a student with need after subtracting grants, the average cost for a student without need after subtracting non-need based grants, the average percentage of need met by aid and the average debt a student accumulates before graduation.

This is the second year in a row that Ramapo College received the designation. Most of the schools that head Kiplinger’s rankings are larger institutions with 15,000 students or more. But a few smaller public colleges, such as Ramapo College with its combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of about 5,600 students, stood out. Only 11 schools on the list are smaller than Ramapo College.
