The president of Ramapo College of New Jersey’s Student Government Association (SGA) is gaining national recognition for his leadership.
Law and Society major Benjamin Hartmann ’27 has been named the October 2026 Student Government President of the Month by the American Student Government Association (ASGA). The national organization serves 1,000 member institutions across all 50 states and worldwide and is focused on helping student governments become more effective, ethical and influential on campus.
“We are proud to recognize Benjamin for his outstanding leadership and for the positive example he sets for student government leaders across the country,” said ASGA Director of Member Relations Mickey Arce.
Hartmann stood out for his commitment to transparency, accessibility, creativity, and public service, according to Arce. “His leadership reflects a thoughtful and student-centered approach to student government, shaped by his previous service as Secretary and Chief of Staff and his continued dedication to making student leadership more visible, responsive, and effective,” Arce said.
The Roadrunner from Piscataway in Middlesex County, NJ, was honored by the recognition, but said it does not belong to him alone. “It reflects the work of our entire SGA, student leaders and club members who show up every day, and the Ramapo faculty who make space for students to thrive,” he said.
Being recognized on a national level for work that began on Ramapo’s Mahwah, NJ campus “is a reminder that when students are empowered to lead, the impact reaches far beyond our own community,” Hartmann said. He called the recognition “proof of what every Roadrunner is capable of. Therefore, if you have a vision, chase it, and don’t stop until it becomes your reality.”
Hartmann also said that “Ramapo has opened doors for me that I never could have expected, and I’m committed to making sure those doors are open to every student on our campus.”
