Sarah Dowman, Class of 2009

“My name is Sarah Dowman, and I graduated from Ramapo College in 2009 with a double major in Spanish and Visual Arts and a minor in Latin American Studies. During my studies at Ramapo College, my desire to learn Spanish drove me to pursue various study abroad experiences in Puerto Rico and Perú, as well participate in the volunteer trip to Guatemala with Ramapo College and Grupo Cajolá.”

“Since I graduated from Ramapo, I have continued traveling throughout the Spanish speaking world, exploring music and art scenes abroad, learning about diverse cultures, and meeting people from so many different walks of life, all of which never would have been possible without learning the language!”

“I received my Master’s degree in Spanish from Bowling Green State University where I spent the first year in Spain and wrote my master’s thesis entitled, ‘Mapeando la cultura Kruda: Hip-hop, punk rock y performances queer latino contemporáneo.’ Currently I am in the first year of my PhD program in Spanish at the University of Maryland, focusing on Latin American and U.S. Latino culture. I am also a Teaching Assistant here at the university and teach lower level Spanish courses.”
