Weekend Edition 4/30-5/3

Thursday, April 30th the Civic and Community Engagement Center and the Women’s Center will continue their Mother’s Day Drive! For this drive, people can donate items such as jewelry, nail care, handbags, etc. There will be donation boxes across campus in different offices such as the Library, Residence Life office, the Women’s Center, and the Bradley Center, and the EOF. The boxes will stay in these locations until May 3rd. For questions, please contact women@ramapo.edu. Later that day, join the College Programming Board for a Laser Tag event at 9 pm on the Bandshell! Get ready for an alien-themed night of fun, with a laser tag course that will feature obstacles and inflatables!

Friday, May 1st the Student Government Association and College Programming Board will be hosting their annual Outdoor Concert! This year’s headliner is Bowling for Soup, and there will be opening acts by Brent & Co. and the student group Creating Clementine! The event will start at approximately 7 pm on the Bandshell, and the rain location will be the Auxiliary Gym. Don’t miss out!

Saturday, May 2nd the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be offering a volunteer opportunity with the Mahwah Baseball and Softball All-Stars Program. The Mahwah Baseball and Softball Recreation Programs have joined together to offer an “All-Star” Program designed for special needs children between the ages of 6 and 18.   This is a non-competitive co-ed program to introduce the basic skills of the game and work on fundamentals in a safe environment while having lots of fun. There are no strikes and outs and children hit a ball off a tee or pitched by a coach based on the child’s skill level. Each student that volunteers will serve as a “buddy” to one player to help during practice or the game. The program will be run out of the Continental Soldiers Field in Mahwah. If you have questions, please email ccec@ramapo.edu. That day, Students of Caribbean Ancestry and the College Programming Board will co-sponsor SOCA Fest on the Bandshell from 12 pm to 5 pm! Don’t miss out on this outdoor fair featuring fun inflatables including Bouncy Boxing, Human Foosball, and a Bungee Run, as well as other carnival games and treats!

On both Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday May 3rd the Men and Women’s Track & Field teams will be competing in the NJAC Championships! Be sure to show your support and cheer on the Roadrunners!

Finally, the Ramapo College community is coming together to support efforts to provide relief for those in need as a result of the April 25th earthquake in Nepal. The initial earthquake and aftershocks have claimed more than 4,400 lives and crippled Nepal’s infrastructure.

In addition to Ramapo’s strong history in uniting to support relief efforts, this cause is especially close to our community as 19 Nepalese students are currently part of our undergraduate student community. These students, with the support of faculty and staff, have chosen three organizations to be the recipients of all funds collected from the Ramapo community. These organizations are Mercy Corps (http://www.mercycorps.org), Oxfam (https://www.oxfam.org/), and
Dawanli Friendship Club (http://www.dawanli.org.np/index.php).

Donations will be collected at the following events*:

  • Campus Vigil Thursday, April 30th Berrie Center and Arch 7:00pm
  • Outdoor Concert Friday, May 1st Bandshel l 7:00pm

*Additional venues/events may be designated in the near future.

Additionally, you may use your credit card to make an online donation here: https://life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/nepal-earthquake-relief-fund-rcnj.

The Center for Student Involvement would like to wish the student body the best of luck on final exams and a happy and safe summer vacation! Information regarding next semester’s events will be posted on the In the Loop page upon our return. Thank you for your continued support at events!
