Center for Student Involvement (CSI)

Weekend Edition 4/23-4/26

Thursday, April 23rd join the College Programming Board for a screening of Pay it Forward as a part of Civic Engagement Week! This film tells the story of one young boy who pledges to “pay it forward” by doing good deeds, and thus sparks an entire wave of human kindness.  This event will take place at 10 pm in the H-wing auditorium.

Friday, April 24th the Civic and Community Engagement Center will host their bi-weekly service trip to House on the Hill. House on a Hill is a day care center in Goshen, NY that works specifically with children from immigrant families. Volunteers will work with the children and help the teachers. Transportation is provided! If you plan to use your own transportation, please ensure that you arrive on-time, and please email ccec@ramapo.edu indicating that you intend to use your own transportation. Students should arrive at the Bradley Center bus stop at 8:15 AM and get back to Ramapo around 1:00 PM. That afternoon, be sure to stop by the Grove, the Arch, and dining halls to participate in the World Expo between 12 and 2 pm. There will be an international food festival, flamenco dancers, a mariachi band, henna tattoos, a photo booth, bubble tea, free t-shirts, prizes, and more! Later, support the Baseball team as they compete against William Paterson University at 3:30 pm. Go Roadrunners! In the evening, the United Asian Association and its co-sponsor International Student Organization will be hosting their traditional largest event of the year with a huge array of foods, games, activities and performers: the Asian Expo! Wrap up API Month with your friends by eating delicious food from all corners of Asia and playing traditional games and activities like origami and more. Members of UAA will be performing and prizes will be given out throughout the night. The event will take place from 6 to 10 pm in the Alumni Lounges. For more information, email uaa@ramapo.edu. Finally at 10 pm, the College Programming Board, 1Step, and MEVO (Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization) will be hosting a Make Your Own Dirt Cups event in Friends Hall! This event is a fantastic CEC opportunity as you will be able to learn more about sustainability in a presentation by MEVO’s Founder and Executive Director, Eric Fuchs-Stengel! In addition to creating your own dirt cups (in reusable cups, of course) with a combination of chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos, and gummy worms, you will be able to tie-dye recycled t-shirts from a local thrift store called Udelco! Don’t miss out!

Saturday, April 25th is the Chinatown & Cherry Blossoms Festival trip! Tickets are on sale at Roadrunner Central for $20 for students and $25 for faculty. This walking tour through Chinatown includes a meal, Cherry Blossom Festival admission, and transportation. The bus leaves campus at 9:30 am and should return at 6:30 pm. That afternoon support Ramapo athletics and watch the Softball team compete against The College of New Jersey at 1 pm and 3 pm.  Later that night at 9 pm in the Auxiliary Gym, the College Programming Board will be sponsoring a Roller Skating event! Come skate the night away with friends on the rink! Skates will be provided to all who participate.

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, April 28th Paul Pfau will be performing on campus! Pfau is an award-winning singer-songwriter from the rural hills of western Maryland whose music is likened to a fusion of John Mayer and Michael Buble because of his crooning voice and tasteful guitar playing. He was nominated for Best New Artist by the Washington Area Music Association, has opened for the Lumineers, and played for the Beach Boys. All these efforts have earned him a spot on this season of the hit television series, The Voice! For a sneak peek at his performance, click here.
