Center for Student Involvement (CSI)

Weekend Edition 10/16-10/19

Thursday, October 16th join the Civic and Community Engagement Center in Pavilion Room 3 at 1 pm for their SCOTUS discussion on Children’s Rights. SCOTUS discussions give students the chance to speak openly about important social and political issues being brought up in the Supreme Court of the United States. This is an excellent CEC opportunity, so make sure to stop by for this enlightening talk! Later at 9 pm in the Alumni Lounges is Take Back the Night, an event that is part of Violence Awareness Week, sponsored by the Women’s Center. Take Back the Night is an empowering speak out and march with the purpose of unifying women and men in an awareness of sexual and relationship violence. Together students, faculty and staff will empower survivors to share their stories and seek to end sexual assault, domestic violence, and dating violence. Take back the night and stand up against violence!

Friday, October 17th come down to Friends Hall at 12 pm for Rep Yo Flag! This event, sponsored by Ebony Women for Social Change, is part of Latino Heritage Month.  It will be a celebration of culture featuring traditional music, clothing, food and anything else you’d like to bring that represents “your flag”! Don’t miss this wonderful celebration! That night at 10 pm, stop by H-wing auditorium for the College Programming Board’s screening of the new release horror film, As Above, So Below! Get in the Halloween spirit with this scary flick about the Paris Catacombs!

Saturday, October 18th, support the Ramapo Roadrunners by checking out all of our athletic events! At 1 pm, the Women’s Soccer team will play The College of New Jersey, and at 2 pm the Men and Women’s Swimming teams will compete against TCNJ as well. End the night by testing your luck at the College Programming Board’s Price is Right event at 10 pm in the Pavilion. Contestants will compete for prizes by guessing the price of various items. It will feature a Contestant’s Row, where four lucky people who have been plucked from the audience are asked one by one to guess the price of an item. The contestant whose guess is closest to the actual price, without overbidding, wins the prize and moves on in the rounds! Winning contestants will have the chance to compete in the Showcase Showdown!  Come play with friends or watch the game show unfold in the audience!

Looking for a fun way to lend a helping hand? On Sunday, October 19th, join the Civic and Community Engagement Center for their service trip to the annual Lorrimer Wildlife Sanctuary Fall Family Festival from 10 am to 3 pm in Franklin Lakes. Students will have various opportunities to volunteer throughout the day including handing out food and refreshments, assisting visitors at the arts and crafts tables, and guiding tours along the sanctuary’s nature trails. Back on campus at 7:30 pm, Colleges Against Cancer will host their annual Pink Tie Formal in Friends Hall as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Week. This dance is held to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for cancer research. Tickets are $5 per student and $4 for faculty/staff, and they can be purchased at Roadrunner Central. All are encouraged to attend and show their support for this cause! Also, the Greek organization which has the largest percentage of its members attend the event will receive 15% of the proceeds for the philanthropy of its choice. Appetizers & dessert will be served!
