Staff Assessment & Reappointment for next year Process

All Current Staff (including Graduating Seniors)

All current student staff (including Graduating Seniors) are required to complete the Self Assessment & Reappointment Intent Process Application by Wednesday, January 21, 2026. This application helps us understand your plans for the upcoming academic year and includes your self-evaluation, which will be reviewed with your Supervisor early in the Spring semester. Please allow at least 20 minutes to complete the application.

Planning to return next year?

New this year: If you are requesting to return for next year, you must also submit a 3–4 minute video reflection by Wednesday, January 21, 2026. In your video, please highlight your experience, growth, and what you will bring to the team if selected to return as a RAM. This is your opportunity to showcase your journey as an RA, what you’ve learned, your leadership development, and how you plan to continue making an impact in our residential communities. For more information and to submit your video, please view: RAM Reappointment Video Submission.

SARD Applications are now available!

If you are applying for the SARD position, please submit your SARD Application by Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Interviews will be conducted by the Residence Life Professional Staff on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Qualified candidates will be able to sign up for an interview time in advance—please keep an eye on your email for details.

Student staff reappointment to any position within the Office of Residence Life is not guaranteed. Likewise, continued employment after being hired or reappointed is also not guaranteed. Reappointment and continued employment are determined by several factors, including:

  • Academic eligibility and requirements
  • Job performance and demonstrated responsibilities

Placement for all Residence Life student staff positions is based on departmental needs. While applicants may indicate preferences, interest in specific residential areas may not be accommodated when final placement decisions are made as several factors are taken into account for staff placement.

How does Staff Assessment & Reappointment work?

Early in the Spring semester, Supervisors will schedule an Assessment Meeting with all current student staff. During this meeting, Supervisors will review position-related materials and engage in an open, reflective conversation about your performance, growth, and goals. Job performance, attitude, and your role as a positive representative of Residence Life will also be considered as part of this Reappointment conversation.

Documents reviewed during this process include (but are not limited to):

How Should a Staff Member Prepare for the Staff Assessment & Reappointment Meeting?

  • Take the meeting seriously and approach it as an opportunity for reflection and development.
  • Come with an open mind and be ready to discuss your strengths, areas for growth, and goals.
  • Remember that your Supervisor is invested in your success—the purpose of this process is to support your professional growth and help you develop as a student leader.

Taking the time to prepare thoughtfully will help ensure a meaningful and productive conversation.

Questions to Consider Before Completing the Reappointment Process

As you move through the reappointment process, please take time to reflect on the following questions to ensure you are prepared for the responsibilities and commitments of returning as an RA or SARD:

  • Am I willing and able to make the RA or SARD position a priority?

  • Will I be able to maintain good academic standing while serving in this role?

  • Can I commit to attending mandatory training in August and January, as required by the employment contract?

  • Am I able to be flexible with my hall placement, understanding that placements are based on departmental needs? Note: If selecting your own Fall housing assignment is a personal priority, you may prefer to participate in the Housing Selection Process rather than requesting reappointment to the position.

  • As a returning staff member, am I ready to serve as a RAM (Resident Assistant Mentor), think creatively, and find ways to go above and beyond in supporting my community and team?
