FYS Class:
Class of: 2028
Major/Minor: Social Work
Resident/Commuter: Commuter
Favorite Class: My favorite class has been Food and Culture because it explores how food connects to identity, traditions, and different societies. I enjoy learning how culture influences what people eat and how it brings communities together. The class is interesting to me because it connects real-life experiences with history and social issues, making it both engaging and meaningful. One of my favorite parts is that we were able to try many different types of foods on certain days, which made the learning experience more interactive and memorable.
Favorite Place on Campus: I like going to Dunkin because I love their refreshers, and it’s a place where I usually go with my friends. It’s a nice spot to take a break, relax, and socialize while still staying energized throughout the day.
Clubs/organizations: I am actively involved in the Students of Caribbean Ancestry (SOCA) and the Organization of Latino Unity (OLU). As a first-generation college student, these organizations reflect my cultural background and my interest in building community on campus. Through my involvement, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with others, help plan events, and create spaces where students feel included and represented. Being part of these groups has strengthened my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
Future Plans: My future plans include gaining hands-on experience through internships and continuing to stay involved in campus organizations and events. As a first-generation college student, I am focused on building a strong foundation for my career and personal growth. After graduation, I plan to pursue a career where I can support and help others, while continuing to develop my skills and make a positive impact in my community.
Favorite Inspirational Quote: One of my favorite motivational quotes that keeps me going is, “Trust the process” It reminds me to stay patient, keep working hard, and believe that everything will come together with time and effort.
Advice for First-Year Students: A piece of advice I would give to first-year students is to stay open to new experiences and not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Get involved on campus, meet new people, and don’t be too hard on yourself while adjusting. It’s okay to not have everything figured out, just focus on growing, staying consistent, and taking things one step at a time.
