Gross Center Internships

The Gross Center offers opportunities for Ramapo College students to intern directly with us or with one of our partner organizations. Internships are paid and may be credit bearing.

Hope DeWitt, Research and Exhibitions Intern

Hope DeWitt

Hope DeWitt is a junior dual major in history and international studies with a minor in political science. She is very involved on Ramapo campus, as a member of Peer Facilitators, CSI, Leaders in Service, and Global Roadrunners. She recently studied abroad in Germany while also visiting the Czech Republic, France, and Italy to further her understanding of world cultures, interactions, and events of 20th century history, specifically genocides. After graduation Hope intends to begin her career as an educator and and to work towards becoming a professor through the United Nations to educate on human rights and genocide. 

As the Research and Exhibitions Intern, Hope will

  • Work with the Gross Center director and the Memorial Scrolls Trust to help synagogues in our catchment area (and beyond as requested) research and prepare materials for an exhibit about the Czech Memorial Scrolls in our region.
  • Assist the Gross Center director in sorting, categorizing, and displaying Gross Center holdings, including organizational records.
  • Other tasks as assigned in support of the Gross Center

Maddie Zech

Madeline Zech is a senior History major with a minor in Human Rights and Genocide Studies. She is very active on campus, as Madeline is a member of Peer Facilitators, Leaders in Service, Global Roadrunners, and the Civic Community Engagement Center. Madeline studied abroad in Berlin, Germany this past summer while visiting the Czech Republic, Italy, and France to further her knowledge of twentieth century history, particularly World War II and genocide related studies. After graduation, Madeline plans on working towards her Ph.D. in History with a focus on Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

As the Partner Institution Intern, Maddie will

  • Work with our partner organization, the Dresner Center (Temple Beth Tikvah, Wayne) to plan a scroll gathering event for November 2024. This will involve on-site work in Wayne and communication with synagogues in our catchment area (and beyond as requested). Assist the Dresner Center with planning other programs, as necessary.
  • Serve as a teaching assistant for the religious school of Congregation Beth Haverim Shir Shalom (Mahwah), which will be implementing a Gross Center curriculum. This will require evening work at the synagogue.
  • Other tasks as assigned in support of the Gross Center.

Future Internship Opportunities

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior at Ramapo College of New Jersey
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to travel to off site locations
  • College-level coursework in the area of Holocaust or Genocide Studies
