Professor Fritzsche (University of Illinois-Urban-Champaign) will conduct a virtual conversation about his recent book, Hitler’s First Hundred Days. When Germans Embraced the Third Reich (Basic Books) with Ramapo professor Sam Mustafa, Ph.D., who teaches German History and is the author of several books in the field. Fritzsche’s probing account reveals how Germany’s fractured republic, in the spring of 1933, Germany turned itself inside out, from a deeply divided republic into a one-party dictatorship. His examination of this transition includes the mass arrests, dismals of Jews and leftists from state service and anti-Jewish boycotts and sheds light on how Hitler and the National Socialists simultaneously terrified and beguiled ordinary Germans. The event will be held under the auspices of The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
