Weekend Edition November 7th-10th

Today, Thursday November 7th, don’t forget to donate to the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, hosted by the Civic and Community Engagement Center, which will be taking place all through the month of November. Later, join College Programming Board at 9pm for a groovy 70s Night in the Alumni Lounges that will kick off a three day “journey through the decades”! Bring your friends and tie dye shirts and make your own lava lamps! Free pizza and mozzarella sticks will also be served.

Friday, November 8th, the CCEC will be hosting a trip to House on the Hill, a daycare center in Goshen, NY that works specifically with children from immigrant families. This is a great volunteer opportunity, and you will get to work directly with the children and their teachers. Students interested in going should arrive at the Student Center parking lot at 8:20 am, and the bus will get back to Ramapo around 1 pm. That night, the College Programming Board will host an 80s themed event in Alumni Lounges at 9pm. Come play super-sized video games from the decade, including Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., and Mortal Combat! There will also be a free ice cream sundae bar with lots of delectable topping choices, so stop by and treat your sweet tooth!

Saturday, November 9th, the CCEC will be holding its weekly volunteer trip to Teaneck, NJ where students will be tutoring kids in grades K-12. They will be focusing on subjects like Math, Language Arts, and Arts and Crafts but no tutoring experience is required, so any one is welcome to come! This is a great opportunity for people looking for a volunteer experience or for those pursuing a teacher education certificate. The bus will be leaving campus around 9am and will return around 1pm. For more information, contact the CCEC, located in SC-213, at extension 7586. That afternoon, watch the Men’s Swimming team compete against New Jersey Institute of Technology and the Women’s Swimming team compete against the College of New Rochelle at 2pm. Support your fellow roadrunners! And later, stop by J.Lee’s at 9pm for College Programming Board’s final decade-themed event of the week: a 90s night! Re-live your childhood with throwback 90s décor and get a chance to perform some 90s themed karaoke! Free Chinese food will also be served.

Weekend Edition Oct 31st- Nov 3rd

Happy Halloween! Today, Thursday, October 31st, stop by Friends Hall at 9pm for a Murder Mystery event hosted by the College Programming Board. While you attend a fancy dinner party with some great appetizers, someone will get murdered, and it’s up to you to solve the mystery! Don’t miss this live-action Clue style event!

Friday, November 1st, kicks off a New Release Movie weekend hosted by College Programming Board! Planes, the animated comedy from the makers of Cars, will be screened at 9pm and 11pm in the Pavilion, and snacks and beverages will be available!

The movie mayhem continues Saturday, November 2nd at 9pm in Friends Hall for a screening of We’re the Millers! Bring friends and relax with this summer comedy, and enjoy some free popcorn! Earlier that day, join the Civic and Community Engagement Center in tutoring kids in grades K-12 in Teaneck, NJ. They will be focusing on subjects such as Math, Language Arts, and Arts & Crafts. No experience in tutoring is necessary, so everyone is welcome! This project is great for service learning students and for those who might be getting their teaching certification! For more information, contact the CCEC in SC-213 or call at extension 7586. In the afternoon, make sure to check out all the different athletic games going on! The Women’s Volleyball team will play FDU-Florham at 11am and Mount St. Mary College at 3pm. In between, watch the Field Hockey team go up against William Stockton College at 1pm.

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This week Andy Hendrickson will be performing at Ramapo. Andy is a New York based comedian with a no-fluff routine that’s engaging and fun to watch! He was a showcase winner at HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, performed at TBS’ The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas and was a finalist at the prestigious Great American Comedy Festival. Weekend Edition October 24-27th

Today, Thursday October 24th, stop by the first Women’s Center event of the day at 2pm in ASB 135 for Let’s Talk About Glee.  Rachel Handler, a disabled actress from New York City will host a conversation about disability and its role in TV and film. Bring your questions to this thought-provoking program! At 8pm, go to Friends Hall for the Athens Boys Choir and Katastrophe performances and Trans 101 Workshop, also sponsored by the Women’s Center.  Athens Boy Choir and Katastrophe are two transgender spoken word artists with compelling performances. The workshop will also be a great learning opportunity! Later, enjoy After Dark programming by attending the Gender Bender Costume Ball at 10pm in Friends Hall. All the girls will dress like boys and all the boys will dress like girls! Come with friends for great food, music , and dancing as well as a movie screening of Hocus Pocus at midnight in Alumni Lounges , a photo booth, and a video game tournament! There will also be a chance to win an Ipad mini, so don’t miss out!

Friday, October 25th at 8pm stop by H-Wing Auditorium for the Cultural Showcase hosted by the Women’s Center. This event will be a part of Latin@ Heritage Celebration and will be showcasing a variety of cultural components such as, dance, poetry, song, costume, and any other talents individuals have. Come by for a great immersion experience!

Saturday, October 26th at 1pm show your Ramapo spirit and cheer on our athletic teams! The Field Hockey team will be playing Vassar College and the Women’s Soccer team will go up against Rutgers-Camden. Go Roadrunners! At 9pm, come to Friends Hall for Olympics Night co-hosted by the College Programming Board and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Compete in a variety of 60 second challenges for the chance to win prizes! Bring friends and compete together!

Weekend Edition October 17th-20th

Today, Thursday October 17th make sure to wear purple as a sign of support for the LGBTQA community against bullying! Purple represents spirit on the rainbow flag, and millions of Americans will wear it today. So join the Women’s Center and “go purple”! At 1pm, stop by the Women’s Center for a meet and greet lunch with Shanna Katz, and go to Alumni Lounges for her formal event at 3pm, where Shanna will speak about her online open-source sex education program. She is a queer disabled certified sexologist and sexuality educator and she talks, writes and teaches about the huge spectrum of sexuality, both from personal and professional perspectives. Don’t miss out on a great learning opportunity! Also taking place at 1pm and hosted by the Women’s Center is a discussion with Kevin Roberts, the author of Cyber Junkie:  Escape the Gaming and Internet Trap, who will share his personal experience on the harsh realities of Cyber Addiction. So stop by SC-138 and learn about how we can all be more aware and avoid the cyber trap! Then at 7pm is Take Back the Night in Alumni Lounges where you can join the Women’s Center in speaking out and marching against sexual and relationship violence! Come to all these events in support of Queer History Month! And at 6pm, the Women’s Tennis team will be playing Kean University and the Men and Women’s Swimming teams will go up against FDU-Florham. The Women’s Volleyball team will then play Rutgers-Camden at 7pm. Make sure to cheer on all the athletic teams tonight!

On Friday, October 18th stop by the Bandshell from 4-6pm for the Pumpkin Patch event hosted by College Programming Board. No need to go off campus, because the Bandshell is being transformed into a pumpkin patch for you to pick your pumpkin! There will also be areas set up for decorating, and fall treats so bring friends and get into the Halloween Spirit!

Saturday, October 19th  at 7am,  participate in Sandy Relief- Rebuilding Together: Kick-Off To Rebuild event, sponsored by the  Civic and Community Engagement Center and co-hosted by the National Football League. You will be going off campus to Moonachie, New Jersey to work on renovating and enhancing 10 homes that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. You may also take part in efforts in helping to rebuild a playground funded by Carter’s Kids and Lowe’s. Transportation is limited, so make sure to contact the CCEC if you’re interested. You may email ccec@ramapo.edu or stop by their office in SC-213 for questions regarding the event. At 1pm, show your Roadrunner spirit as the Women’s Soccer team plays Richard Stockton College! And later, join College Programming Board for their New Release movie at 9pm in Friends Hall. They will be screening the hit summer movie, Grown Ups 2. Free popcorn will be available!

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This week, Nelly’s Echo will be performing in Friends Hall at 10pm. Nelson Emokpae, also known as Nelly, competed on season 3 of NBC’s The Voice! He is originally from Nigeria and is a talented singer-songwriter and guitarist who draws on his own multi-cultural background to create music that is a skillful combination of blues, reggae, and soul. Weekend Edition October 3-6

Thursday, October 3rd is the Queer Peer History Month Kickoff! So join the Women’s Center from 1-2pm in Laurel Courts as they welcome guest speaker, Julia Weldon, a queer activist and indie-folk-pop artist who has toured nationally with major acts including Brownbird, Melissa Ferrick, and Bitch. Check out her performance here! Later, the tradition continues with Ramapo’s annual Octoberfest celebration, sponsored by Student Government Association! There will be four fun filled days of events, starting tonight from 10pm-2am in the Auxiliary Gym with Sports Fest, co-sponsored by the After-Dark Program. Come by for a slew of awesome activities including a dodgeball tournament, tug-of-war, zumba, rock climbing, swimming, tailgating games, volleyball, and knockout. Delicious Roadrunner’s fat sandwiches will be served!

Friday, October 4th the Octoberfestivities continue with a sidewalk chalk competition co-sponsored by College Programming Board in the Grove from 5-7pm! Clubs are encouraged to come get creative and draw some masterpieces to take away the prize! Not in a club? Stop by at 5pm to watch the competition unfold and/or join the student body in judging the sidewalk art at 6pm! Food and drinks will also be available. From 7pm-9pm, stop by Laurel Courts for the Fall Fallout, where there will be food, a DJ, karaoke, and some awesome activities! Come swing the wrecking ball, see how long you can stay on a mechanical bull, and race to the finish on go-karts! Also from 7pm-9pm is the Haunted Mansion, taking place in Birch Mansion and co-sponsored by Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Society. Walk through the mansion and get scared by actors, who will be hiding around every corner! Busy from 7pm-9pm? There’s another session from 10pm-12am and tour times run in 15 minute intervals! End the night with some “Best of the Wurst” late-night dining at Birch Tree Inn from 9pm-1am.

On Saturday, October 5th stop by the Bandshell from Noon-4pm for the Octoberfest Carnival! Enjoy some cotton candy, popcorn, and delicious BBQ food before you check out the various activities! There will be tattoos, a stilt performer, a photo booth, and an inflatable obstacle course! From 12:30pm-2pm Ramapo Ruckus will be happening on the Main Soccer Field, so stop by to pick up your Octoberfest t-shirt and for a chance to win an iPad! Later that night, DJ Clinton Sparks & Swizzymack will be in the Auxiliary Gym from 10pm-1am. Doors open at 9:45pm, so come with friends and to some great music!

On Sunday, October 6th, come by J.Lee’s from 12:30pm-4pm to watch the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles game. Enjoy some snacks and beverages as you cheer on your favorite team! If you need a good scare to end you Sunday, go on the Fright Fest Trip to Six Flags! The bus leaves campus at 2pm, so don’t miss out!

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, October 8th, spoken word poet Jose Canta will perform. He is a nationally acclaimed, award-winning spoken-word artist who has inspired thousands of college students with his message that any kind of struggle or suffering can be overcome with artistic expression. Jose’s performance celebrates Hispanic culture and is one of the first events for Latin@ Heritage Month, so stay tuned for more of these events coming up in October. Weekend Edition September 26-29

Today, September 26th, come watch the women’s tennis team play John Jay College at 4pm. Support your fellow Roadrunners! Later, stop by Friend’s Hall at 9pm for Breakfast and Bingo hosted by the College Programming Board. Here’s your chance to have a Panera breakfast for dinner and to win some really great prizes!

On Friday, September 27th, join College Programming Board in Alumni Lounges at 9pm for their Fun, Fitness, and Healthy Living event. At the event, also known as “Avoiding the Freshman 15,” learn some fun tips and tricks to staying healthy on campus! Zumba classes, yoga classes, and healthy snacks and recipes will be available to all who attend!

On Saturday, September 28th, go cheer on the women’s soccer team as they play Rutgers University-Newark at 1pm. After the excitement of the game, go unwind at the New Release Movie event in Friends Hall at 9pm, sponsored by College Programming Board. Come relax with friends as we watch the minions from Despicable Me 2 and enjoy some light snacks!

Weekend Edition September 19-22

Today, September 19th, come watch the Women’s Volleyball team play Rutgers-Newark at 7pm.  Proudly sport your maroon as you support our College’s athletics! Want to learn more about Greek Life? Stop by the Meet the Greeks event taking place at 9pm on Laurel Courts. Hear about all the different Greek organizations on campus, see many of them perform, and learn how you can get involved!

On Friday, September 20th, join the College Programming Board for Fro Yo Friday, happening at 9pm in J.Lee’s. Bring your friends and get a cup of your favorite soft-serve  while playing pool, ping-pong, and other fun games!

On, Saturday, September 21st at 1pm, come out to watch the Men’s Soccer team play The College of New Jersey. Later on, take another chance to show your Ramapo spirit at 9pm in the Alumni Lounges for Ramapo Rowdie Night, hosted by the College Programming Board. Enjoy some Ramapo-themed fun with trivia, games and prizes!  Food and beverages will be served.

The fun doesn’t stop with the weekend!  On Tuesday September 24th at 9pm College Programming Board will be having its second performer of the Tuesday Night Live Series, Jared Mahone. Weekend Edition September 12-15

Today, September 12th, head over to C-220 at 1pm for the Meet the Women’s Center event. Get a chance to take a tour of the Women’s Center, meet the Women’s Center staff, and hear about all of their events for the upcoming semester. Light refreshments will be served. To end the day, join College Programming Board at 9pm in Friends Hall for their Decorate Your Room event, and learn some cool projects and tricks to help liven up your residence hall room!

On Friday, September 13th, come out and show some Ramapo pride by supporting our sports teams! The field hockey team will be playing New Paltz at 4pm and the Women’s Volleyball Roadrunner Invitational includes matches at 4pm and 8pm for Ramapo. Later that night, make sure to stop by SC-136 at 9pm for College Programming Board’s Photo Scavenger Hunt event. Make a team with your friends and dart around campus to cover everything on the list for a chance to win!

On Saturday, September 14th, the Women’s Volleyball Roadrunner Invitational will continue with two more matches at 12pm and 2pm. At 1pm, the women’s soccer team will be playing St. Joseph’s College (LI) and the field hockey team will be playing FDU-Florham. Drop by both for a chance to show your Roadrunner spirit!  At 8pm, join College Programming Board on the Grove for a Camp Out with Movies event. Enjoy some delicious popcorn while relaxing with some great movies, including Monsters University, The Roommate, and This is the End.

To finish up the weekend and kick start a great week, drop by the Club Fair taking place on Monday from 12pm-2pm on the Grove. Take this opportunity to learn about some great groups and organizations, and sign up for clubs to meet new people on campus!
