Today, Thursday March 6th at 3:30 p.m. stop by the Laurel Hall Screening room for a viewing of “Persepolis”, a documentary that tells the story of a young girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. The film portrays her struggles and discusses the political and social implications of the time period. Come be inspired by this brave child’s story and support Women’s Herstory Month! Later at 9pm, go to Alumni Lounges for Green Dot Bingo, co-sponsored by the College Programming Board and the Women’s Center. Don’t miss out on the event where you can simultaneously have fun, win prizes, and learn about violence prevention efforts!
Friday, March 7th join the Civic and Community Engagement Center at 4 p.m. as they head to Extra Mile, one of the only mobile soup kitchens in Newark, to volunteer by making sandwiches for the homeless and then walking a short distance to Penn Station to give out the prepared bagged lunches. This will be an eye-opening and interactive experience where you can lend a helping hand to the less fortunate. Space is limited, so contact the CCEC at ccec@ramapo.edu or call 201-684-7586 for more details! This weekend, the college Programming Board and Disney Club are co-sponsoring a Disney weekend! At 9pm, head to J.Lee’s for their Disney Karaoke and Trivia night where students can sing along to their favorite Disney songs while competing to answer the most trivia questions! Food and beverages will be served.
Saturday, March 8th, Disney weekend continues with Disney Double Feature night in Friends Hall at 8pm! They will be screening Toy Story 3 followed by Frozen, the new Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature and Best Song! If you didn’t catch these movies in theaters, come by with friends to enjoy them with some popcorn and refreshments!

Thursday, February 27th at 7:30 am join the Civic and Community Engagement Center for their Christopher Barron Comic Book Making event, where students will travel to a middle school in Paterson and help 5th graders make comic books. Volunteers will attend a workshop in the morning to learn the ropes to comic book making. All are welcome to attend, however the CCEC is also looking for individuals who can speak Spanish to volunteer as well. This is a great potential CEC opportunity that will be a fun time for you and the children you are helping! For more information stop by their office located in SC-213 or contact the CCEC at ccec@ramapo.edu or call extension 7586. Later, come by the H-wing auditorium at 9pm for Latin Dance Lessons hosted by the College Programming Board! Instructors Nicole Heisler and Eli Rosenstein will be teaching students basic steps to various Latin dances such as salsa, meringue, tango and more. And if you haven’t bought yours yet, CPB will be giving away a few Spring Concert tickets as well! It will be great opportunity to try something new, but if you don’t want to dance feel free to just come and watch the fun!
Not a singer? Not a problem! Friday, February 28th is Lip Sync Night hosted by the College Programming Board in Friends Hall at 9pm! Come lip sync to your favorite songs of all time with friends, and wow the audience with your skills. There will be three rounds of competition, and winners will advance to the next round. Pizza will be served and CPB is giving away movie tickets and Spring Concert tickets to see Big Sean! Don’t miss out!
Saturday, March 1st at 12pm the Women’s Lacrosse team will compete against Old Westbury! Stop by the field and support your fellow roadrunners! At 9pm, head to Friends Hall for College Programming Board’s Trivia Night! Everyone will get clickers to try and correctly answer the most questions. There will also be prizes for 3 of the winners! Food and beverages will be served.
The fun doesn’t end with the weekend. Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. On March 4th, Suzi Q will be performing at 10pm in Friends Hall. Suzi Q is among the highest-ranked slam poets in the country. She has performed with the late Gil Scott Heron, Les Nubians, Dead Prez, The Flobots and many more in her time as a slam poet. Suzi has been featured on many television and radio program and has even earned international acclaim for some of her work. Apart from being a slam poet, she is also a well-known activist who works with civil rights organizations, victims advocate organizations, arts organizations, peace organizations, and more. Suzi is currently performing her poetry and music around the country in addition to leading workshops. She recently won 3rd place in the Women of the World Poetry Slam in March 2011 and 10th in the individual World Poetry Slam in October 2011. She is also a member of the 2012 Denver Slam Nuba Slam Team and a co-coach of the Denver Minor Disturbance Youth Poetry Slam Team, currently ranked 3rd in the world. Later at 4:30 p.m. come to Pavilion for a reception and screening of the documentary Inequality for All followed by an interactive national webcast with former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich at 6:30 p.m. The film, narrated by Reich himself, discusses the impact wealth inequality will have on the future of U.S. economy and democracy. This event, co-sponsored by the Civic and Community Engagement Center, College Democrats, Faculty Resource Center, and Communication Arts Cinematheque, is another great CEC opportunity and will make for an enriching learning experience. Make sure to stop by and get valuable information on this important topic in U.S. economic affairs!
Friday, February 21st drop by Friends Hall at 9pm for Black Light Mini Golf hosted by the College Programming Board! Get the chance to compete with friends for the title of mini golf champion! All necessary equipment will be provided, and everyone is encouraged to attend!
Saturday, February 22nd come by the Alumni Lounges at 9pm for another College Programming Board event, Guys Night/Girls Night! There will be tons of fun activities for the girls and the guys including video games, mani pedis, cupcake decorating, and more! Snacks and beverages will also be available. Don’t miss out!
The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. As part of next week’s open mic night on Tuesday, February 25th, Ramapo will be hosting So Long Solo, an acoustic indie/pop duo that has traveled abroad performing their music, raising money, and volunteering for those in need. Their performance style is very laid back, and tea will be served at the event to enforce the relaxed, coffee house feel. Earlier in the day, the duo will host a discussion about their time abroad and talk to students about their mission. Friday, February 14th go to Alumni Lounges at 9pm for Speed Dating and Cupcake Decorating hosted by the College Programming Board. Celebrate the holiday of love by going on speed dates with people on campus! Not into the dating scene? Come and make your own delicious cupcakes with friends! Boy or girl, single or taken, there will be activities for everyone to enjoy at this fun-filled event.
Saturday, February 15th the Men’s Volleyball team competes in a double header against Brooklyn College at 10am followed by Elmira College at 2pm. Come support your fellow roadrunners and the men’s volleyball players in the beginning of their season! Then at 9pm, head over to the Alumni Lounges for the College Programming Board’s Cookie in a Jar Night. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, this is the event for you. Students will be able to make their own jars filled with all the ingredients you’d need to make delicious cookies! Make sure to stop by!

This week on February 18th, Jessi Campbell will be coming to campus. Jessi is a comedian who has performed at hundreds of colleges and clubs. She’s done comedy routines at Gilda’s LaughFest, The Boston Comedy Festival, The Great American Comedy Festival, San Francisco SketchFest, and was the People’s Choice winner at the 2009 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival. Thursday, February 6th head down to the Alumni Lounges at 9pm for the Paint the Campus Purple with Relay event sponsored by the College Programming Board and Relay for Life. Everyone will get the opportunity to create purple crafts to show their support for Relay for Life, happening April 4th-5th in Bradley Center, and help fight back against cancer! Students will be able to take some crafts, such as tie-dye shirts, home with them, and other crafts will proudly be displayed at the Relay for Life event in April! Come help make the event a success!
Friday, February 7th at 9pm come to J.Lee’s for the College Programming Board’s Olympics Night! They will be screening the opening ceremony and simultaneously holding tournaments for pool, ping pong, and video games! Winners will get the chance to win great prizes! Delicious food and beverages will also be served.
Saturday, February 8th will be Ramapo College’s Annual Fashion Show hosted by the Women’s Center! Doors will open at 7:30pm, the pre-show will be at 8:00 pm and the runway show will begin at 8:30pm. Don’t miss out on this circus-themed affair! There will be models showcasing pieces from local designers and dancers doing impeccably choreographed routines! Prizes will also be given away, including jewelry, gift baskets, and more. After the fashion show, there will be an after-party in Friends Hall where students can dance or just kick back with friends. Both the fashion show and after-party will feature host Christina Salgado from Bad Girls Club and DJ DarkKent! Students, families, and friends are all encouraged to attend and to help support African Ancestry Month here on campus. Tickets go on sale the week prior to the show and all money raised will be donated to charity. Don’t miss this fun, energetic show!

Weekend Edition 1/30-2/2
At 9pm, check out the College Programming Board’s New Year, New You event taking place at 9pm in the Alumni Lounges. There will be yoga classes, make your own “Goal Mason Jars” to place your semester goals inside of, a make your own yogurt parfait station, and lots of healthy snacks to enjoy! Bring friends and start working on your resolutions for the new year!
Friday, January 31st the College Programming Board will be hosting a Mentalist event in Friends Hall at 9pm. The mentalist, Eric Dittelman, combines mind reading and improv comedy in a funny, energetic performance that everyone can enjoy. In 2012, he appeared on season 7 of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and advanced to the semi-finals. Then in 2013 he made headlines again when he was a guest on
“The Ellen Degeneres Show.” Don’t miss the chance to become part of this amazing show! Check out a demo of Eric’s performance here.
Saturday, February 1st the men and women’s basketball teams will be playing The College of New Jersey at 1pm and 3pm respectively. Go support your fellow Roadrunners! Later at 9:30pm, stop by Friends Hall for the College Programming Board’s UFC 169 screening event. They will be showing the pay-per-view event live where Renan Barao and Urijah Faber will be fighting for the Bantamweight title. Come watch these two high-ranked fighters compete to be the ultimate champion!
Sunday, February 2nd marks the day we’ve all been waiting for: the 2014 Super Bowl! Bring your friends down to the Friends Hall at 6pm to watch the Seahawks take on the Broncos! The game will be screened on the big screen projector, and food and drinks will be served! Show your game-day spirit and come root for your favorite team!
The fun doesn’t stop with the weekend! Tuesday, February 4th at 10pm the College Programming Board will be hosting their second performer of the 2014 Tuesday Night Live series, Tiffany Houghton. Tiffany is an independent recording artist who has been singing and writing from a very young age. She has had roles on Broadway and opened for multiple national recording artists including Joe Nichols and Jake Miller. Her YouTube videos include covers of today’s favorite hit songs, and her YouTube channel has over 800,000 views. Tiffany released her debut single, “High” in August on YouTube and VEVO and has since been climbing her way to fame. To check out some of her music, visit Tiffany’s website here.

Today, Thursday December 12th join College Programming Board at 9pm in the Pavilion for a Pinterest Craft night! Relax before finals start by doing some of Pinterest’s most popular crafts! All crafts materials will be provided. Come with friends and get creative!
Friday, December 13th at 9pm College Programming Board will be hosting a Gingerbread House Making event. Everyone is welcome to come and create a personal gingerbread house creation. Students may work by themselves or in small groups. Feel free to snack as you stack up your gingerbread house and enjoy some delicious hot chocolate!
Saturday, December 14th is College Programming Board’s annual semi-formal Snowball! The event will take place at 9pm in the Pavilion and all are encouraged to attend wearing their semi-formal attire! There will be a DJ, food and mocktails, an Instagram lounge, and much more! Tickets are on sale at Roadrunner Central for $5 or can be purchased at the door. New, unwrapped toys will also be accepted at the door and all proceeds go to Toys for Tots. Don’t miss out on a great time and a chance to support a wonderful cause!

Today, Thursday December 5th, stop by the Alumni Lounges at 9pm for Project Linus Card and Blanket Making hosted by the College Programming Board! Project Linus is an organization that distributes homemade blankets to ill or traumatized children. Students will have the opportunity to customize a blanket and make a card to accompany it, and everything made will go to this wonderful cause. Come by and lend a helping hand to a child in need for the holiday season!
Friday, December 6th, the College Programming Board is hosting a Just Dance Competition in Friends Hall at 9pm as part of Ramathon which will take place from 6pm-2am in the Pavilion. Ramathon is Ramapo College’s Dance Marathon where students dance for 8 hours for the kids! The Champion Children will share their stories, dance, and interact with everyone. They are celebrating their year-long fundraising efforts for Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Jersey. At this event Ramathon will reveal their total raised! Register at ramathon.kintera.org and there is a $30 minimum to get into the event along with your $10 registration fee. Come be a part of this incredible fundraising effort!
Saturday, December 7th, the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be holding its weekly volunteer trip to Teaneck, NJ at 9am. Students will be tutoring kids in grades K-12. They will be focusing on subjects like Math, Language Arts, and Arts and Crafts but no tutoring experience is required, so any one is welcome to come! This is a great opportunity for people looking for a volunteer experience or for those pursuing a teacher education certificate. At 1pm, the Women’s Basketball team will play Montclair State University and at 2pm the Men and Women’s Swimming teams will compete against the College of Staten Island. Later at 3pm, the Men’s Basketball team will also play Montclair State University. Spend the afternoon cheering on Ramapo’s Roadrunners! Then have a relaxing end to your day with the College Programming Board’s Stress Buster at 7pm in the Alumni Lounges. Come with friends and de-stress before finals with massage chairs, facials, hot stone therapy and much more! There will also be healthy snacks and a smoothie bar!

This Thursday, November 21st, don’t forget to donate to the Thanksgiving Food Drive, hosted by the Civic and Community Engagement Center, which is going on through the end of the month. Then stop by SC-136 at 1pm for another CCEC event, “Do You Want Fries With That?”: The Story Behind the Food Workers Who Serve You. Martha Ecker, Professor of Sociology, will lead a discussion about the food industry and the daily struggles food workers endure. Come find out how you can help bring about more fair and just working conditions for food workers. This event is part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week and would make for a great CEC opportunity! Later, drop by Friends Hall at 9pm for Trivia Night, hosted by the College Programming Board. Come test your knowledge for the chance to win prizes and enjoy some delicious wings, fried ravioli, and mozzarella sticks! Participants will also be given buzzers to give their answers with, just like at Applebee’s or Buffalo Wild Wings trivia nights! Beverages will also be provided.
Friday, November 22nd, join the Civic and Community Engagement Center in volunteering at Extra Mile, one of the only mobile soup kitchens in Newark, from 4:15 to 9:15pm. Students will make sandwiches for the homeless and then walk a short distance to Penn Station to deliver the prepared bagged lunches. There will also be an hour where everyone will get the opportunity to interact and talk with the homeless. Supervisors and patrolmen will be around to ensure safety for all visitors. Don’t miss out on this eye-opening experience and help go that extra mile to help the homeless! If interested, contact the CCEC at extension 7586 or stop by the office located in SC-213 behind the student center. Then at 9pm, stop by Pavilion for Poker and More night hosted by the College Programming Board. Put your skills to the test with some classic casino games for a chance to win some great prizes! Food and beverages will also be available.
November 23rd, join the Civic and Community Engagement Center at 9am in tutoring kids from Kindergarten to 12th grade for their weekly volunteer trip to Teaneck, NJ. Volunteers will be focusing on subjects such as Math, Language Arts, and Arts & Crafts. No experience in tutoring is necessary, so everyone is welcome! This project is also great for service learning students and for those in the process of receiving their teaching certification! Later at 11:30 am is the NJAC Basketball Kickoff Tailgate! Stop by Bradley Center where they will be raffling off iPads, $500 Ramapo Dollars, Rowdie Gear, and gift cards! There will also be free food, DJ entertainment, giveaways, and more. Get raffle tickets for wearing maroon and for all the events you attend! Then at 1pm the Women’s Basketball team will play New Jersey City University and the Men’s Basketball team will play at 3pm. Don’t miss out on all the athletics fun! After the games and tailgate, come to Friends Hall later at 9pm for the Homegrown Band Showcase hosted by College Programming Board. Homegrown is a night of music from bands made up of your fellow Ramapo students. Come get a taste of the local sound! There will also be two stages set up on each side of Friends Hall for non-stop music fun all night long!
After Saturday, we are on break until after Thanksgiving. When you return, kick off the last two week of classes and programs with this semester’s last Tuesday Night Live. Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. On December 3rd, Ran’d Shine will be performing at Ramapo. Ran’d is a magician who mixes his passion for magic with his cultural roots in Africa, where he has traveled to perform. President Obama thought enough of Ran’d to ask him to perform at the military’s prestigious “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Banquet and Ball!” To check out Ran’d ‘s performance, click here.

Today, Thursday November 14th, come show off you artistic talent at Body Art Night at 9pm in SC 137-138, hosted by the College Programming Board! The event will consist of a face painting competition, and the winner brings home 4 Gold AMC movie passes! Whether you want to be the painter or the “paintee”, you’re bound to have a blast. There will also be free henna and airbrush tattoos! And don’t forget, if you want to lend a helping hand for the upcoming holiday, this month the Civic and Community Engagement Center is running its Thanksgiving food drive and all donations are appreciated!
Friday, November 15th at 7:30 pm, the Women’s Basketball team will be playing SUNY: Institute of Technology. Cheer on Ramapo’s Roadrunners! Want to help save the Earth and make cool crafts at the same time? Join College Programming Board later that night for its DIY: Recycling How to Event at 9pm in the Pavilion. There are countless ways to turn things you might throw away into a great project, and here you’ll learn how. So come and be a part of the sustainable crafting fun!

Women’s Basketball will play either a consolation game at 1pm or a championship game at 3pm, then the Women’s and Men’s Swimming teams will compete against University of Scranton at 7:30 pm. After a day of games, come relax with friends at College Programming Board’s Paint Your Own Pottery event in the Alumni Lounges at 9pm. Both the paint and the pottery items will be provided, so all you have to bring is your creativity! Items will be available for pick up about 1 week after the event because they need to be fired off campus.

This week, comedian Kristen Becker will be performing at Ramapo. Becker, who also happens to be an out lesbian, has an unapologetic sense of humor and wins over gay and straight audiences alike with her southern charm and huge personality. When she’s not touring, Becker packs Buffalo comedy clubs and hosts a monthly Stand Up-Blast Off comedy event where her comedy troupe, Dykes of Hazard, performs for a huge audience.
