Weekend Edition 10/2-10/5

Thursday, October 2nd, Women’s Volleyball plays the City College of New York at 7pm. Head down to Bradley and support your fellow Roadrunners! Later at 10pm is Latin Dance Lessons co-hosted by the College Programming Board, Lamda Theta Alpha, and Lamda Theta Phi. Cha-Cha over to H-Wing auditorium to learn the basic steps to classic Latin dances from two experienced dance experts! There will be food served prior to the dance performance and lessons.

Friday, October 3rd, come over to Friends Hall at 10 pm for Black Light Mini Golf! Put your putting skills to the test on this fun and colorful course! Mini golf equipment will be provided to all who choose to participate.

October 4th is all about athletics with three different matches throughout the morning and afternoon! At 10 am, the Men’s Tennis team plays both Rutgers Camden and SUNY Purchase. At 1pm Women’s Soccer plays Rowan University, and this is followed by the Men and Women’s Swimming Teams Alumni Meet at 2 pm. Go Ramapo!! End the night off with a screening of the summer blockbuster 22 Jump Street in the H-wing auditorium, hosted by the College Programming Board. If you missed it in theaters, you’ve got to catch this hilarious comedy featuring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Snacks will be available to all who attend!

We are also one week away from our biggest weekend of the fall…Oktoberfest! It will be taking place October 9th-12th and will feature an After Dark event, a Chalking competition, food, prizes, and FUN! The event is presented by Student Government Association with additional co-sponsorship from the College Programming Board, Alpha Psi Omega Theater Honors Society, and many more organizations. Mark it in your calendars!

Weekend Edition 9/25-9/28

Thinking of staying on campus this weekend? Then check out all of the fun events going on!

Thursday, September 25th, the Women’s Volleyball team will play William Patterson University at 7pm. Go Roadrunners! After that, head over to Friends Hall at 8:15 pm for the Giants v. Redskins game viewing party, hosted by the College Programming Board. Come hang out on game day with friends and enjoy some complimentary snacks and refreshments!

Friday, September 26th the College Programming Board hosts their second event of the weekend with Breakfast and Trivia, happening at 10pm in the Alumni Lounges. Put your knowledge skills to the test for the chance to win great prizes and eat some delicious breakfast foods!

Saturday, September 27th, prepare to be mesmerized as you watch one of the nation’s top hypnotists, Mark Maverick, perform in Friends Hall at 10pm, courtesy of the College Programming Board. Mark’s show is a combination of comedy and hypnosis that will have the entire audience on their feet. Whether you’re hypnotized or not, it’s sure to be a blast! At September 1st’s hypnotist event, Friends Hall reached its 300 person capacity and more than 100 students who came late couldn’t come in for the performance. Please make sure to arrive early so you don’t miss this fantastic show!

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. On September 30th, Two Worlds will be coming to perform on campus. This musical duo, comprised of 19 year-old vocalists Nick Voelker and Adiel Mitchell, mixes acoustic R&B with contemporary pop to produce a performance that audiences won’t soon forget. Along with their own original songs, the duo has released many covers and their YouTube channel has more than 1 million views. Voelker and Mitchell were also recently selected to perform as finalists on VH1’s “Make A Band Famous”, and their version of Pharrell’s “Happy” hit the Top 20 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. Weekend Edition 9/18-9/21

Thursday, September 18th come out and support the Women’s Field Hockey team as they take on DeSales University at 4pm. Shortly after, head to Greek 101 at 5pm in Alumni Lounges where you can get an introduction to all the benefits of Greek Life while meeting some incredible students and organizations in the process! Finally at 10pm head back down to the Alumni Lounges for the College Programming Board’s Paint Your Own Pottery event. Here you’ll get the chance to paint your very own mug! All painting supplies will be provided, and your piece will even be fired in a kiln and returned to you after the event. Don’t miss out!

On Friday, September 19th Fright Fest Tickets will go on sale at Roadrunner Central at 8am. The trip will take place on Sunday, October 12th and the bus leaves campus at 12pm and returns at 10pm. Your first ticket will cost $30 and the second ticket costs $40. Make sure to buy yours before they sell out! Later at 10pm in Friends Hall is Dueling Pianos, hosted by the College Programming Board. Two piano players will lead the audience in a huge sing-along with the crowd choosing the songs they play. Make sure to check out this entertaining and humorous musical battle!

Saturday, September 20th the Men’s Soccer team will play Richard Stockton College at 1pm. Go Roadrunners! Later that night, head down to Friends Hall at 10pm for the College Programming Board’s Fear Factor event. Take part in Fear Factor-style games with your friends to see who will come out as the most fearless competitor! Prizes will be given to the winners.

Weekend Edition September 11th-14th

On Thursday, there will be a memorial service remembering the victims of September 11th from 1pm-2pm in the Spiritual Center presented by the Veteran Students Organization, Student Government Association, the College Democrats, and the College Republicans. All are welcome to attend and show their support. In the afternoon, the Women’s Soccer team will host Medgar Evers College at 4pm and later at 10pm in the Pavilion the College Programming Board is hosting Decorate Your Room, where you can create all your favorite Pinterest crafts to make your room feel like home. All materials and supplies will be provided for students who attend.

On Friday, Women’s Tennis will play Rutgers Newark at 4pm, followed by the Women’s Volleyball game against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 7pm. This kicks off the Roadrunner Invitational for Women’s Volleyball, which will continue on Saturday. Later at 10pm in Pavilion is Fro Yo Friday/Meet CPB. Come eat some delicious frozen yogurt with all your favorite toppings! This will also be an event where students can actually meet CPB, or the College Programming Board: an organization on campus where students plan amazing events throughout the semester, including the Tuesday Night Live series and the Spring Concert! It will be a great way to find out how you can get involved!

On Saturday the 13th, the Roadrunner Invitational for the Women’s Volleyball team continues with games against Ithaca College at 10am and St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn at 2pm. Also at 2pm is the Men’s Soccer game versus Eastern Connecticut. Go Ramapo! End the night with more CPB fun at Body Art Night in the Pavilion at 10pm. Try cool designs on for size with temporary tattoos, henna, and more! Snacks and beverages will also be served.

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. On Tuesday, September 16th Kyshona Armstrong will come and perform. Originally a music therapist, Kyshona combined her love of soul and storytelling to become a national performer who has toured around the country singing. Her musical style is a mix of folk, country, and bluegrass that will have the entire audience on their feet clapping and stepping to the beat. Don’t miss out! Weekend Edition May 1st-4th

 

Want to take a trip into the city this Thursday May 1st? There are still tickets left for Pixar in Concert at Roadrunner Central! Make sure to buy yours before they sell out! Tickets are $25 for student, staff, and faculty and there is no limit for purchase. The bus leaves at 4:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. At 9pm, there will be Laser Tag in the Bandshell hosted by the College Programming Board! Don’t miss this alien-themed game of fun! There will be obstacles and inflatables to make the game even more competitive and laser tag guns will be supplied for anyone who wants to play. Come alone or with a group of friends to create a team of your own!

Friday, May 2nd is the highly anticipated Outdoor Concert featuring Relient K! The performance will take place in the Bandshell, with student band The Victory opening at 8pm and Relient K going on immediately after. Admission is free for everyone attending! No bags or bottles will be allowed into the performance space, so make sure to tell your friends so that no one has to run back to their room! This event is sponsored by the Student Government Association and the College Programming Board with help from College Panhellenic Council and Inter-Fraternity Council.

Finally, finish your semester of the fun way by going to the College Programming Board’s Mentalist event on Saturday, May 3rd! Go to Friends Hall at 9pm for an unforgettable performance by Eric Mina, an international comedy hypnotist who has been amazing audiences around the world with his skills. Eric received a degree in Psychology from Penn State University and is a Certified Hypnotherapist and is very interested in human behavior and lie detection. If you want a sneak peek at his skills, head to the Birch Tree Inn at 6:00 p.m. for Eric’s dinner teaser performance!

Weekend Edition April 24-27

Today, April 24th the Civic and Community Engagement Center  continues Civic Engagement Week with a screening of the documentary Blackfish at 5:30 p.m. in the Laurel Hall Screening Room.  Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several people while in captivity. Along the way, director-producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite compiles shocking footage and emotional interviews to explore the creature’s extraordinary nature, the species’ cruel treatment in captivity, the lives and losses of the trainers and the pressures brought to bear by the multi-billion dollar sea-park industry. A discussion and reflection session will take place following the film.

Friday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. volunteer at Extra Mile with the Civic and Community Engagement Center! Extra Mile is one of the only mobile soup kitchens in Newark that originated with the Newman Catholic Club serving Rutgers Newark, NJIT, Essex County College and UMDNJ. Students will make sandwiches for the homeless and then walk a short distance to Penn Station to deliver the prepared bagged lunches where they will be encouraged to talk and interact with the homeless. There are only 6 student spots for the trip, so contact the CCEC at ccec@ramapo.edu or call 201-684-7586 to ask about availability. Later at 8:00 p.m., the CCEC will also be hosting their annual Night Without a Home event! This night long, hands-on experience featuring speakers, documentaries, and more provides a safe and educational setting for the Ramapo College Community to engage in hunger and homelessness awareness. Tracking their journey throughout the night alongside a biography of a homeless individual, participants will have an opportunity to connect with someone who has actually experienced the struggle. If you are interested in participating in this event, please stop by the CCEC Office at SC213 to pick up a contract and emergency contact sheet! Finally, end the night with some delicious frozen yogurt at Fro Yo Friday sponsored by the College Programming Board. This event, taking place at 9pm in J.Lee’s will feature your favorite fro-yo flavors and countless toppings to choose from! Don’t miss out on this delicious affair!

Saturday, April 26th the College Programming Board and numerous co-sponsoring clubs are hosting Boardwalk Day from 1pm-5pm at the Arch! Come enjoy the warm weather with authentic boardwalk-style food, sidewalk chalk, boardwalk games and activities, DJ music, and more! And the fun doesn’t have to end once the sun goes down! Head over to Late Night afterwards for a specially themed meal.

Don’t forget to stop by the athletic games this weekend! On Saturday, the Women’s Lacrosse team will play Stockton College at 1pm and the Men’s Tennis team will play a TBD competitor at 2pm. And on Sunday, the Women’s Soccer team will be playing as part of Alumni/Family Day!

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This coming Tuesday, April 29th Jessica Kirson will be performing at Ramapo! Jessica is a comedian with an electrifyingly funny performance and a wide array of on-stage characters. She was selected to perform at the Hamptons, Toyota, Marshall’s Women in Comedy, Comedy Central’s South Beach, Montreal, and HBO’s Las Vegas comedy festivals. Jessica was also awarded “Best Female Comic” by the MAC association in New York City and recently accepted the Nightlife Award for “Best Stand-up Comedian” in New York City. Her YouTube channel “The Jessy K Show” has more than 100 videos with a combined total of over 2.5 million views and she recently launched her own podcast called “The Jessica Kirson Podcast.” Jessica has also been featured on both ABC and NBC shows and will be on the big screen in Nick Cannon’s Cliques with George Lopez and Jim Breuer. Make sure to stop by Friends Hall at 10pm for this amazing show!

Weekend Edition April 17th-20th

Thursday, April 17th is the Kings and Queens Drag Show hosted by the Women’s Center, the College Programming Board, and Ramapo Pride. Drag performers Peppermint and All Beef Patti will perform a show consisting of live music vocals over recorded music tracks, and their performance will be followed by a discussion of drag and a Q&A with the audience. Head to the Alumni Lounges at 8pm for an unforgettable show experience featuring these professional drag queens from New York!

Come out and support Ramapo’s Athletics this weekend!  Friday, April 18th the Baseball team will play Rutgers Newark at 3pm. Then Saturday, April 19th the Softball team will play Richard Stockton College in a double header starting at 1pm, and the Men’s Tennis team will play Polytechnic Institute at 4pm. Go Roadrunners!

This weekend is also Marvel Phase 1 Movie Weekend hosted by the College Programming Board! On Friday, they will be screening Hulk and Iron Man and on Saturday they will be screening Captain America and Thor. Head to Friends Hall at 8pm both nights to enjoy your favorite superhero flicks with friends and have some snacks and refreshments!

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Next Tuesday, April 22nd is the Ramapo Music Awards, co-hosted by the College Programming Board, Ramapo Music Club, and WRPR! Come out and enjoy free food and live music with your friends as you watch performances by Amanda Fama, Beast Cult, The Bloodwashed Band, Dolphin Uppercut Avenger, Matthew Goode, and The NJ Gordon Band. The event will be hosted by Cara Daniello and will have several awards available including Best Songwriter, Best Singer, Best Instrumentalist, Best Solo Act, Best Ensemble, Best Recording Artist, Most Unique, and Act of the Year. The secret judges will choose winners for each category except Act of the Year, which the audience will vote for the night of the show! Don’t miss out on this musical extravaganza! Come dressed to impress in your best awards-show attire.

Weekend Edition April 10th-13th

Support your Roadrunners this weekend by attending some of our athletic events! Thursday, April 10th the Softball team will play a double header against Mount Saint Mary College beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Men’s Tennis team will be playing Rutgers-Camden at 4:30 p.m that day, and then Rutgers-Newark Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Baseball team plays Montclair state Friday at 3:30 p.m., and then competes in a double header against the College of New Jersey on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets for Pixar in Concert on May 1st will be going on sale at Roadrunner Central Friday, April 11th! The first ticket can be purchased for $25 and the second ticket can be purchased for $40. The bus leaves at 4:00 p.m. on May 1st and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will sell out quick so make sure to get there early! Later on Friday, head to Friends Hall at 7 p.m. for Pride Prom co-hosted by Pride, the Women’s Center, GEAR, SAFE, Health Awareness Team, College Democrats, and the College Programming Board. The fairy-tale themed affair will provide a safe and affirming atmosphere for all members of the queer community and its allies. Dinner will be served and an IPad and other great prizes will be raffled! Make sure to come dressed in your formal fairy tale attire!

Saturday, April 12th is College Programming Board’s Make Your Own Candy Sushi event! Come with friends to make some non-traditional sushi rolls with all of your favorite sweet treats! The ingredients will include: Rice Krispie Treats, Gummy Worms, Swedish Fish, Fruit Rollups, Fruit by the Foot, Peeps, Chopsticks, Marshmallows, and Colorful Licorice/Sour Straws.  The event takes place at 9pm in Friends Hall. Don’t miss out!

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend. Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. Tuesday, April 15th Mayhem Poets will perform in addition to open-mic night. This group takes spoken word poetry to a whole new level with combinations of hip hop, theater improv, and stand-up comedy in their performance. They were featured on the Today Show and Eyewitness News after they won first place and a grant for $100,000 in the Microsoft Idea Wins Challenge in 2006 and they’ve been touring internationally with hip hop musicians and artists ever since. Mayhem Poets started up at Rutgers University in 2000 when two of its members started an open-mic on campus called Verbal Mayhem. From then on, the Mayhem Poets made it their mission to change people’s lives through poetry. They look at contemporary world issues in their performance and look to access people from all walks of life through spoken word. Also taking place on April 15th is the Annual Diversity Convocation starting at 3:30 p.m. in Friends Hall! This year’s speaker is Shane Windmeyer. Shane is a national leader on gay and lesbian civil rights issues and a champion for LGBT issues on College Campuses. He is also the Cofounder and Executive Director of Campus Pride, the only national organization for student leaders and campus organizations working to create a safer college environment for LGBT students. Shane will be speaking to the Ramapo Community earlier in the day, and a small dinner will take place later in the evening.

Weekend Edition 4/3-4/6

There are lots of athletics events happening this weekend! Today, April 3rd the Softball team will be playing Brooklyn College in a double header starting at 3 p.m., so come by one or both games to support the Roadrunners! On Saturday, softball is back in action with a double header against William Patterson, starting at 1pm. The Baseball team hosts William Patterson at 3:30 p.m on Friday and on Sunday hosts Rowan in a double header starting at 11:30 a.m. The Men and Women’s Track teams will be hosting the Roadrunner Invitational this weekend. The action starts Friday at 3pm and continues on Saturday at 9:30 am! Finally men’s volleyball has two home matches Sunday, April 6th starting at 5:30pm.

Later tonight, head to the H-wing auditorium at 9:00pm for the annual Dancing with the Staff competition, co-hosted by the College Programming Board and Beta Kappa Sigma. Watch the faculty and students team up to perform routines in various dance styles. The top three teams will receive prizes, but only one will be crowned the Dancing with the Staff 2014 champions! Don’t miss out on this fun-filled event!

Friday, April 4th is Relay for Life! The event is taking place in the Bradley Center from 5pm-6am. There will be countless activities including a photo booth, frozen t-shirt contest, human pyramid, zumba, Relay Idol, purple pong, and more! Lots of food and beverage options will be available including Moe’s, Sonny + Tony’s, Cars, Starbuck’s, and Bagel Train. Food bracelets can be purchased for $5 but will be free for those who raised at least $100. Help fight the battle against cancer and walk for a cure!

The Spring Concert is finally here! This year’s concert will be on Saturday, April 5th in the Bradley Center Main Gym at 8pm, with doors opening at 7pm.  It will feature hip hop superstar Big Sean with an opening act by Z100’s DJ Toro! Tickets are sold out, but there will be a last chance to win tickets at tonight’s Dancing with the Staff event! Refreshments and band merchandise will also be sold during the show.

Weekend Edition 3/27-3/30

Thursday, March 27th come to Pavilion Rooms 1 and 2 at 1pm for SCOTUS: Historical Gideon, hosted by the Civic and Community Engagement Center! The landmark 1963 Gideon v. Wainwright case determined in a 9-0 decision that the 6th Amendment grants the accused  the right to have the means to put up a proper defense and that the state as well as federal courts must respect that right. The discussion will be facilitated by the Law and Society faculty. Come learn about this case’s application in modern society and get some interesting facts on the history of the American legal system! Later support the Men’s Volleyball team as they compete against Mount Saint Vincent at 7pm, and finally at 9pm, head over to the Alumni Lounges for Fear Factor, co-hosted by the College Programming Board and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Face your greatest fears participating in competitive challenges to be crowned Fear Factor champion! There will be teams of two and one will be eliminated each round until the finals. Don’t miss out!

Friday, March 28th at 9pm is Jammin’ with the Staff in Friends Hall, hosted by College Programming Board! This is an opportunity for students and staff to perform and play music together for the Ramapo community! Don’t want to perform? Sit back and enjoy the show and some treats from your seat in the audience. Saturday , March 29th the Men and Women’s Track and Field teams will be hosting the Ramapo Northeast Challenge and the Baseball team will be playing Rowan University in a double header starting at 11:30 a.m. Come support your fellow roadrunners! That night, drop by Friends Hall at 9pm for the College Programming Board’s Musical Chairs Scavenger Hunt event. Compete to find all the items on your scavenger hunt list and to be the last person sitting! Great prizes and food will also be available for everyone.

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend. Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. On April 1st Eric O’Shea will be coming to perform at Ramapo! Eric is a comedian who has performed across the country at colleges and has been nominated 6 times for Campus Activities Magazine’s Male Performer of the Year title. You may know him from his “Songs from Commercials” bit, which got over 4 million hits on Youtube and a rave review from Steven Spielberg. He was also featured performing this act live at the 2009 Creative Emmy Awards alongside huge names in entertainment like  Carol Burnett, Betty White, Seth MacFarlane, Ted Danson, and Jamie Lynn Siegler, to name a few. For a sneak peek at Eric’s performance, watch his videos here. Eric has played for Ramapo crowds of 300+ in the past, so make sure to arrive early!
