Weekend Edition 1/29-2/1

Thursday, January 29th come start the semester off on the right foot with a Speed Friend Meeting event at 10 pm in Friends Hall, hosted by the College Programming Board. Whether you’re a new transfer or a returning Ramapo student, it’s never a bad time to meet new people and find future friends! There will be games and activities, as well as snacks and beverages for students to enjoy. Don’t miss this fun and exciting opportunity to mix and mingle with fellow Ramapo students!

Friday, January 30th join the College Programming Board at 10 pm in Friends Hall for a performance by Jonny Zavant, renowned entertainer and mentalist extraordinaire! Recently voted “Psychic of the Year 2017” Jonny has been wowing audiences at college and university campuses across the country. His performance, a mix of entertainment and hypnosis, is sure to have you laughing ‘til it hurts! This is always one of our most popular events of the semester, so be sure to arrive early and get your seat!

Women’s Basketball v. Montclair State at 1 pm

Men’s & Women’s Swimming v. Rowan University at 2 pm

Later Saturday night, stop by the H-wing auditorium at 10 pm for the College Programming Board’s screening of the blockbuster movie Mockingjay: Part 1 of the hit Hunger Games series! If you missed it in theaters, this is your chance to watch and enjoy it with friends!

Superbowl Sunday is finally here! February 1st, the College Programming Board will be hosting a screening of the Superbowl in Friends Hall with lots of delicious game-day foods and beverages! The event will start at 6 pm and kick off is at 6:30 pm. Come and see who will be this year’s champion!

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, February 3rd Gordon Baker-Bone will be coming to campus. He has been performing in the tri-state area for years and is shaping up to be the next big name on the comedy scene! He has won several local stand-up competitions with a style that is described as thought-provoking, smart, and fun! You’ll be laughing until you cry. Take a sneak peek at his performance here.

Weekend Edition 1/22-1/25

This Thursday, January 22nd join the College Programming Board for Trivia and Mocktails at 10 pm in Friends Hall! This will be a game show style trivia game where each contestant will be given their own remote to lock in their answers. Everyone gets to participate for the chance to win! There will also be a mocktail bar with complimentary beverages available for you to enjoy. Don’t miss out!

Yesterday, January 21st tickets went on sale for the Devils v. Ottawa Senators game at Roadrunner Central, so be sure to buy yours before they sell out! The first ticket costs $20, and the second costs $30, and this includes unlimited pretzels, hot dogs, soda, and water at the game!

Friday, January 23rd stop by Friends Hall at 10 pm for the annual Decorate Your Room event hosted by the College Programming Board! Come make frames, decorations, and more to make your room feel like home!

Saturday, January 24th come cheer on the Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams as they go up against Montclair State at 2 pm! Go Roadrunners! Later, the College Programming Board will be hosting a Grocery Bingo event at 10 pm in Friends Hall. Participants will get to play bingo and winners will receive either groceries or gift cards to the food store; a fun way to stock up your pantry for the start of the semester!

On Sunday, January 25th go out and support Ramapo Athletics at 10 am and watch the Men’s Volleyball team play the College of Staten Island!

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. Join us for the first Open Mic Night of the semester at 9 pm in Linden Hall on January 27th with cookies, coffee, and tea from the Linden Coffeehouse!

Weekend Edition 12/11-12/14

Stressed out about final exams? Stop by the Women’s Center for their Relaxation Week, happening December 10th through 17th during open hours: Monday –Thursday from 11 am to 7 pm and Friday from 12pm to 5pm. There will be video games on the Wii, snacks, hot drinks, and relaxing music for you to enjoy! Just want to sleep? Come chill out on the comfy couches; the lights will be dimmed to create the perfect relaxation environment! It will be a great way to take your mind off exams and a chance to talk with the Women’s Center staff!

Thursday, December 11th kicks off the last weekend of events sponsored by the College Programming Board. Stop by Alumni Lounges at 10 pm for Gingerbread House Making & Holiday Treats! There will be gingerbread house kits available for you to decorate your own house, as well as some of your favorite holiday treats like hot chocolate and cookies.

Friday, December 12th come to Pavilion at 6 pm to support Ramathon! Ramathon is Ramapo College’s 8 hour long Dance Marathon and it is a celebration of all the money the Ramathon organization has raised for the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside NJ all year long. Children’s Specialized Hospital is the leading provider for pediatric rehabilitation and specializes in traumatic brain injury, genetic disorders, and autism. All the funds, every penny, are donated to that location and is used for whatever they may need to make the children happy! The event will feature DJ PHNX, a photo booth, little games, dancing, a performance by the Executive Team in a Morale Dance, performances by fellow Ramapo students like Alex Hoteck, raffles, and food. Most importantly, the kids that were deemed champion children by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for the state of NJ come and share their stories with everyone and dance and interact with all who attend. Don’t miss this fun and rewarding experience!

Saturday, December 13th at 10 pm in the Pavilion is the College Programming Board’s 3rd annual Snowball Semi-Formal! Tickets can be purchased starting December 3rd from Roadrunner Central for $5, and tickets purchased the day of the event or at the door will cost $10. A DJ, Instagram Photo Lounge, mocktails, food, and dessert will be included in the price of your ticket. All proceeds will go to Toys for Tots! Make sure to dress your best in semi-formal attire!!

Sunday, December 14th is the last home game of the semester! Support your Roadrunners by cheering on the Women’s Basketball team as they play John Jay College of Criminal Justice at 2 pm. Go Ramapo!

Weekend Edition 12/4-12/7

Thursday, December 4th join the College Programming Board at 10 pm in the H-wing auditorium for their screening of the hit holiday film Elf! Take this opportunity to chill out and enjoy a movie with friends before exams! Can’t make the late night Thursday showing? There will also be an encore screening of Elf on Friday, December 5th at 5:30 pm in H-wing auditorium, sponsored by Commuter Affairs. Don’t miss out!

Also on Friday, December 5th is the College Programming Board’s Luau happening at 10 pm in Friends Hall! Enjoy delicious tiki bar mocktails and Chicken + Rib Crib, make your own sand art and flower leis, try out the surfboard simulator, and chill out with live music from a reggae band!

Feeling the stress from finals week approaching? Stop by the annual Stress Buster on Saturday, December 5th at 10 pm in the Alumni Lounges, sponsored by the College Programming Board! There will be hot and cold beverages and healthy snacks, as well as a wide array of spa-like services and fun activities! Take a seat in the relaxation chairs, try out the back and foot massagers, get a hot stone massage, enjoy some soft music, and most importantly…relax!

Finally end the weekend by heading down to the Bradley Center to cheer on the Men’s Basketball team as they compete against Medgar Evers College on Sunday at 3 pm. Go Roadrunners!

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday, the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artists, slam poet, spoken word artist, or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, December 9th Chloé Hilliard is going to perform! Standing at 6’1, she is a larger than life comedian who seamlessly weaves together her unique experiences being raised in a Bronx Hacidic Jewish Community in a way that is both hilarious and entertaining. For the last ten years, Chloé has been a culture/entertainment journalist writing and editing for big name publications such as The Village Voice, Essence, Vibe, King, and The Source. More recently, she made her TV debut on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and appeared on AXSTV’s Gotham Comedy Live. Weekend Edition 11/20-11/23

Thursday, November 20th at 1pm in SC-138 is a SCOTUS Food Labeling event. As part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, this discussion will focus on the 2014 case, POM Wonderful vs. Coca Cola about labeling drinks inaccurately. This event is brought to you by the Civic and Community Engagement Center and Laws Faculty Convening Group and is part of the Supreme Court of the United States Discussion Series. For more information, email ccec@ramapo.edu. Don’t miss this great CEC opportunity! Later that night at 10 pm, the College Programming Board is kicking off a weekend full of fitness fun! Join them for their Karate and Fitness event in Friends Hall. It will be an entertaining and energizing class, for anyone from beginners to experts! And when you’re done with your workout, enjoy some complimentary sushi as a reward!

Friday, November 21st the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be holding their service trip to House on a Hill in Goshen, NY.  House on the Hill is a day care center that works specifically with children from immigrant families. Volunteers will work with the children and help the teachers. Transportation is provided! If you plan to use your own transportation, please ensure that you arrive on-time, and please email ccec@ramapo.edu indicating that you intend to use your own transportation. Students should arrive at the Bradley Center bus stop at 8:15 AM and get back to Ramapo around 1:00 PM. At 4:15 pm in the afternoon, the CCEC will be organizing another service trip to Extra Mile. Extra Mile is one of the only mobile soup kitchens in Newark that originated with the Newman Catholic Club serving Rutgers Newark, NJIT, Essex County College and UMDNJ. Students will make sandwiches for the homeless and then walk a short distance to Penn Station to deliver the prepared bagged lunches. Students are encouraged to talk and interact with the homeless. There are 7 student spots available, and the bus will return to campus at 8 pm at the end of the day. It will be a fun and educational experience you won’t want to miss! That night, the College Programming Board’s fitness weekend continues with their Guts and Glutes Zumba event at 6 pm in Linden Hall. They will be co-sponsoring with Linden Hall’s Luau Event!  Come and try some traditional Latin dance moves to the beat of your favorite music while you enjoy a luau party! It’s a workout and a dance party all in one!

Saturday, November 22nd at 9:45 am the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be holding their weekly trip to Teaneck, NJ for tutoring. They will be focusing on subjects such as Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Arts & Crafts. No experience in tutoring is necessary. This project is great for students seeking CEC credit and for those in the process of receiving their teaching certification! Back on campus at 1 pm, the Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams will compete against Rowan University at 1 pm and 3 pm respectively. Go out and support your fellow Roadrunners! At 7pm, the Civic and Community Engagement Center and Leaders in Service will host one of their biggest events of the year as part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week: Night Without a Home. At this overnight poverty simulation participants will watch and discuss presentations, play a few games that will educate on hunger and homelessness, and stay the night in the Alumni Lounges in an experience similar to sleeping like a homeless person would. Tickets for the event must be picked up at Roadrunner Central- free of charge! There will be no admission without a ticket. Minimal food will be provided and cell phones will not be allowed except in extreme cases. Email ccec@ramapo.edu for more details! Finally, end your weekend on a relaxing note with some Yoga and Live Music at 10 pm in Friends Hall, brought to you by the College Programming Board. In conjunction with the event will be a canned food drive, where donations will be going to Actions Against Hunger in Bergen County. Prizes will also be raffled off!

Weekend Edition 11/13-11/16

Thursday, November 13th join the College Programming Board for their Giant Game Night event at 10pm in Friends Hall! Come with friends and play some of your favorite throwback board-games! The bigger the games, the bigger the fun. It will feature Twister, Connect 4, Kerplunk, Jenga, Checkers, Yahtzee, and Plinko! Make sure you come with a big appetite, because after giant games there will be giant sandwiches for everyone to enjoy!

Friday, November 14th, the College Programming Board will be hosting a 90’s Karaoke Night at 10 pm in J. Lee’s. Come jam out with your friends to some of your favorite oldie tunes while enjoying some delicious food and beverages!

Saturday, November 15th at 9:30 a.m the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be hosting their weekly tutoring trip to Teaneck, NJ! They will be focusing on subjects such as Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Arts & Crafts. No experience in tutoring is necessary. This project is great for students seeking CEC credit and for those in the process of receiving their teaching certification! This weekend, Ramapo will also be hosting the Roadrunner Tip Off Tournament! At 3pm, the Women’s Basketball team will play St. Joseph’s – Long Island at 3 pm, and Washington College –MD will be playing Brooklyn at 5pm. If Ramapo wins’ they will play again on Sunday at 2pm and if they lose their game they will play on Sunday at noon. But stay tuned, because the Men and Women’s Basketball teams really kick it into high gear next week, each playing home games on Wednesday, November 19th and NJAC openers against Rowan on November 22nd. Go Roadrunners!!

Also on Saturday, November 15th is the College Programming Board’s annual Homegrown Showcase at 10 pm in Friends Hall! Homegrown is a night of music from bands made up of your fellow Ramapo students. Come get a taste of the local sound!  It will be non-stop music fun all night long.

Weekend Edition 11/6-11/9

Thursday, November 6th, head to Friends Hall at 10 pm to watch Carlos Gomez perform! Carlos Gomez is an award-winning poet, actor, and writer from New York City with a talent for storytelling. He is author of the memoir Man Up: Reimagining Modern Manhood, and was nominated for the Pushcart Prize and named Artist of the Year at the 2009 Promoting Outstanding Writers Awards.  Gomez costarred in Spike Lee’s #1 movie Inside Man with Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, and Clive Owen and appeared in the sixth season of HBO’s Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry and in the third season of TV One’s Verses and Flow. A former social worker and inner city school teacher, Carlos Gomez has devoted his life to helping others and looks to teach men to break rules of male conformity and challenge stereotyped notions of manhood. Don’t miss this educational and entertaining event co-sponsored by the Women’s Center and the College Programming Board, and catch sneak peeks of his poetry here.

Friday, November 7th join the Civic and Community Engagement Center at 8 am for their service trip to House on a Hill in Goshen, NY. House on the Hill is a day care center that works specifically with children from immigrant families. Volunteers will have the opportunity to spend a day working with these children and assisting teachers in their classrooms with various activities. Make sure to take advantage of this learning experience and potential CEC opportunity! Later at 10pm in Alumni Lounges is Cultural Food Fest sponsored by the College Programming Board! Stop by and try some delicious foods, enjoy some fun cultural activities, and watch a performance by the Brazilian Percussion Ensemble! All clubs are invited to take part in this event, and if you would like to contribute in some way please reach out to the College Programming Board at cpb@ramapo.edu!

Saturday, November 8th at 9:30 a.m the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be hosting their weekly tutoring trip to Teaneck, NJ! They will be focusing on subjects such as Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Arts & Crafts. No experience in tutoring is necessary. This project is great for students seeking CEC credit and for those in the process of receiving their teaching certification! At 10pm, the College Programming Board will be holding a Silent Library event in the Pavilion! Based on the hit MTV show, teams will have to work together to pull of hilarious stunts while making as little noise as possible. Teams that make too much noise will be eliminated! Winners will have a chance at prizes! Bring your friends and take part in this hysterical game show experience!

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, November 11th, Jared Mahone will be returning to the Ramapo College campus to perform! An acoustic singer-songwriter, Jared is one of the most booked performers in the college market. He has performed at hundreds of campuses and has sold out concerts around the country performing his unique mix of garage soul music. Weekend Edition 10/30-11/2

Thursday, October 30th at 8am, tickets will go on sale for Kinky Boots at Roadrunner Central! Don’t miss this Broadway hit that’s sure to have you on your feet! The trip will take place Thursday, November 20th, and the bus will leave campus at 4:00 pm for a 7:30 pm show. The first ticket will cost $45, and the second will cost $55. As always, the ticket price includes round trip transportation. Buy yours before they sell out! At 7 pm in Friends Hall, all are invited to attend the Latino Heritage Month Closing Banquet.  There will be food, drinks, and music to celebrate the end of a month that featured wonderful cultural events and discussions all around campus. So make sure to stop by and take part in the celebration! Later at 10 pm, head back to Friends Hall for the After Dark program Gender Bender Costume Ball. Step outside the gender box and on to the dance floor! The DJ will spin electro, hip-hop, house, and 90s throwbacks. Bring your bowties, high heels, mustaches, glitter, suspenders, fishnets, or fedoras- dress to impress however your heart desires! And there will be a photo booth, so make sure to get pictures. Food and drinks will be served, and there will be prize raffles going on throughout the evening. Ramapo Pride, G.E.A.R. and the United Cultural Greek Council have come together for this After Dark event, sponsored by Health and Counseling Services. Don’t miss out!

Ready for a spook-tacular Halloween event? Friday, October 31st at 10pm, the College Programming Board will be holding their annual Murder Mystery in Friends Hall! Come by with friends to enjoy a delicious sit-down dinner, and when you least expect it the murder mystery will begin. Alongside real actors from the Murder Mystery Company, students will team up to find out who the murderer is and solve the mystery! Halloween costumes are not required, but are certainly welcomed!

The movie will have you rolling on the floor laughing and cheering for the heroes!

Weekend Edition 10/23-10/26

Thursday, October 23rd join the Civic and Community Engagement Center in assisting the Meadowlands Environmental Center in their Annual Halloween Event from 3:15 pm until 8 pm. They are expecting up to 200 kids and their parents, and students will be able to volunteer in an evening full of arts and crafts, photo shoots, hay rides, bonfires, and Halloween fun! Come help make trick or treating a happy and safe event for all! Later, stop by the Pavilion at 9 pm for Burritos and Bingo hosted by the College Programming Board! Come eat delicious burritos to celebrate Latino Heritage Month and play rounds of bingo to win some great prizes! Don’t miss out!

Friday, October 24th, support your fellow Roadrunners at the athletic events in the afternoon! Cheer on the Field Hockey team as they play Stevens Institute of Technology at 12 pm, and later watch the Women’s Soccer team compete against Brooklyn College at 2pm. Then at 5 pm, head over to Laurel Courts for the College Programming Board’s annual Pumpkin Patch event! Bring friends and pick your own pumpkin to paint and decorate! All art supplies and decorations will be provided, and there will be light snacks and refreshments for you to enjoy. Get in the Halloween spirit with this fun event!

Saturday, October 25th the Civic and Community Engagement Center will be hosting their weekly trip to Teaneck, NJ at 9:30 a.m. for tutoring! They will be focusing on subjects such as Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Arts & Crafts. No experience in tutoring is necessary. This project is great for students seeking CEC credit and for those in the process of receiving their teaching certification! That night, head to Friends Hall at 10 pm for Chocolate Extravaganza! Come and enjoy some yummy chocolate treats and fondue while you watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! This will be a great way to de-stress from midterms with the ultimate comfort food!

But the fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, October 28th comedian Vladimir Caamano will be performing on campus.  The son of a Dominican immigrant family, Vladimir was raised in the Bronx and Washington Heights, and began polishing his wit while attending Wesleyan University. Whether discussing his grandfather who fathered 47 kids, going to college without luggage, or calling a cab company run by latino spies, you will enjoy watching him weave a hilarious fabric of truth and absurdity in his stories. Vladimir is a regular at all the New York City Comedy clubs, and has been featured on Standup 360, ComedyTime and SiTV’s Comedy Quickies. He is also on the 2013 NBC Standup for Diversity College Tour. Don’t miss this hilarious performance that’s sure to keep you laughing! For a sneak peak at his act, click here.

Weekend Edition 10/16-10/19

Thursday, October 16th join the Civic and Community Engagement Center in Pavilion Room 3 at 1 pm for their SCOTUS discussion on Children’s Rights. SCOTUS discussions give students the chance to speak openly about important social and political issues being brought up in the Supreme Court of the United States. This is an excellent CEC opportunity, so make sure to stop by for this enlightening talk! Later at 9 pm in the Alumni Lounges is Take Back the Night, an event that is part of Violence Awareness Week, sponsored by the Women’s Center. Take Back the Night is an empowering speak out and march with the purpose of unifying women and men in an awareness of sexual and relationship violence. Together students, faculty and staff will empower survivors to share their stories and seek to end sexual assault, domestic violence, and dating violence. Take back the night and stand up against violence!

Friday, October 17th come down to Friends Hall at 12 pm for Rep Yo Flag! This event, sponsored by Ebony Women for Social Change, is part of Latino Heritage Month.  It will be a celebration of culture featuring traditional music, clothing, food and anything else you’d like to bring that represents “your flag”! Don’t miss this wonderful celebration! That night at 10 pm, stop by H-wing auditorium for the College Programming Board’s screening of the new release horror film, As Above, So Below! Get in the Halloween spirit with this scary flick about the Paris Catacombs!

Saturday, October 18th, support the Ramapo Roadrunners by checking out all of our athletic events! At 1 pm, the Women’s Soccer team will play The College of New Jersey, and at 2 pm the Men and Women’s Swimming teams will compete against TCNJ as well. End the night by testing your luck at the College Programming Board’s Price is Right event at 10 pm in the Pavilion. Contestants will compete for prizes by guessing the price of various items. It will feature a Contestant’s Row, where four lucky people who have been plucked from the audience are asked one by one to guess the price of an item. The contestant whose guess is closest to the actual price, without overbidding, wins the prize and moves on in the rounds! Winning contestants will have the chance to compete in the Showcase Showdown!  Come play with friends or watch the game show unfold in the audience!

Looking for a fun way to lend a helping hand? On Sunday, October 19th, join the Civic and Community Engagement Center for their service trip to the annual Lorrimer Wildlife Sanctuary Fall Family Festival from 10 am to 3 pm in Franklin Lakes. Students will have various opportunities to volunteer throughout the day including handing out food and refreshments, assisting visitors at the arts and crafts tables, and guiding tours along the sanctuary’s nature trails. Back on campus at 7:30 pm, Colleges Against Cancer will host their annual Pink Tie Formal in Friends Hall as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Week. This dance is held to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for cancer research. Tickets are $5 per student and $4 for faculty/staff, and they can be purchased at Roadrunner Central. All are encouraged to attend and show their support for this cause! Also, the Greek organization which has the largest percentage of its members attend the event will receive 15% of the proceeds for the philanthropy of its choice. Appetizers & dessert will be served!
