Center for Student Involvement (CSI)

Weekend Edition 2/20-2/23

Thursday, February 20th at 7:30 am join the Civic and Community Engagement Center for their Christopher Barron Comic Book Making event, where students will travel to a middle school in Paterson and help 5th graders make comic books. Volunteers will attend a workshop in the morning to learn the ropes to comic book making. All are welcome to attend, however the CCEC is also looking for individuals who can speak Spanish to volunteer as well. This is a great CEC opportunity that will be a fun time for you and the children you are helping! For more information stop by their office located in SC-213 or contact the CCEC at ccec@ramapo.edu or call extension 7586. Later at 4:30 p.m. come to Pavilion for a reception and screening of the documentary Inequality for All followed by an interactive national webcast with former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich at 6:30 p.m. The film, narrated by Reich himself, discusses the impact wealth inequality will have on the future of U.S. economy and democracy. This event, co-sponsored by the Civic and Community Engagement Center, College Democrats, Faculty Resource Center, and Communication Arts Cinematheque, is another great CEC opportunity and will make for an enriching learning experience. Make sure to stop by and get valuable information on this important topic in U.S. economic affairs!

Friday, February 21st drop by Friends Hall at 9pm for Black Light Mini Golf hosted by the College Programming Board! Get the chance to compete with friends for the title of mini golf champion! All necessary equipment will be provided, and everyone is encouraged to attend!

Saturday, February 22nd come by the Alumni Lounges at 9pm for another College Programming Board event, Guys Night/Girls Night! There will be tons of fun activities for the girls and the guys including video games, mani pedis, cupcake decorating, and more! Snacks and beverages will also be available. Don’t miss out!

The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. As part of next week’s open mic night on Tuesday, February 25th, Ramapo will be hosting So Long Solo, an acoustic indie/pop duo that has traveled abroad performing their music, raising money, and volunteering for those in need. Their performance style is very laid back, and tea will be served at the event to enforce the relaxed, coffee house feel. Earlier in the day, the duo will host a discussion about their time abroad and talk to students about their mission. For more information about So Long Solo, visit their website at http://solongsolo.com/ and find clips of their music here.
