Thursday, October 3rd is the Queer Peer History Month Kickoff! So join the Women’s Center from 1-2pm in Laurel Courts as they welcome guest speaker, Julia Weldon, a queer activist and indie-folk-pop artist who has toured nationally with major acts including Brownbird, Melissa Ferrick, and Bitch. Check out her performance here! Later, the tradition continues with Ramapo’s annual Octoberfest celebration, sponsored by Student Government Association! There will be four fun filled days of events, starting tonight from 10pm-2am in the Auxiliary Gym with Sports Fest, co-sponsored by the After-Dark Program. Come by for a slew of awesome activities including a dodgeball tournament, tug-of-war, zumba, rock climbing, swimming, tailgating games, volleyball, and knockout. Delicious Roadrunner’s fat sandwiches will be served!
Friday, October 4th the Octoberfestivities continue with a sidewalk chalk competition co-sponsored by College Programming Board in the Grove from 5-7pm! Clubs are encouraged to come get creative and draw some masterpieces to take away the prize! Not in a club? Stop by at 5pm to watch the competition unfold and/or join the student body in judging the sidewalk art at 6pm! Food and drinks will also be available. From 7pm-9pm, stop by Laurel Courts for the Fall Fallout, where there will be food, a DJ, karaoke, and some awesome activities! Come swing the wrecking ball, see how long you can stay on a mechanical bull, and race to the finish on go-karts! Also from 7pm-9pm is the Haunted Mansion, taking place in Birch Mansion and co-sponsored by Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Society. Walk through the mansion and get scared by actors, who will be hiding around every corner! Busy from 7pm-9pm? There’s another session from 10pm-12am and tour times run in 15 minute intervals! End the night with some “Best of the Wurst” late-night dining at Birch Tree Inn from 9pm-1am.
On Saturday, October 5th stop by the Bandshell from Noon-4pm for the Octoberfest Carnival! Enjoy some cotton candy, popcorn, and delicious BBQ food before you check out the various activities! There will be tattoos, a stilt performer, a photo booth, and an inflatable obstacle course! From 12:30pm-2pm Ramapo Ruckus will be happening on the Main Soccer Field, so stop by to pick up your Octoberfest t-shirt and for a chance to win an iPad! Later that night, DJ Clinton Sparks & Swizzymack will be in the Auxiliary Gym from 10pm-1am. Doors open at 9:45pm, so come with friends and to some great music!
On Sunday, October 6th, come by J.Lee’s from 12:30pm-4pm to watch the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles game. Enjoy some snacks and beverages as you cheer on your favorite team! If you need a good scare to end you Sunday, go on the Fright Fest Trip to Six Flags! The bus leaves campus at 2pm, so don’t miss out!
The fun doesn’t end with the weekend! Every Tuesday the College Programming Board presents the Tuesday Night Live Series. Each week features either a live performance by a comedian, musical artist, slam poet, spoken word artist or magician or an open mic night during which Ramapo students have the opportunity to showcase their talent. This Tuesday, October 8th, spoken word poet Jose Canta will perform. He is a nationally acclaimed, award-winning spoken-word artist who has inspired thousands of college students with his message that any kind of struggle or suffering can be overcome with artistic expression. Jose’s performance celebrates Hispanic culture and is one of the first events for Latin@ Heritage Month, so stay tuned for more of these events coming up in October. Find a sneak peek of his performance here!
