Air Quality Alert

To: All Students

From: Gina Mayer-Costa, Director of Environmental Health and Safety

Date: June 6, 2023

Be advised that wildfires in Canada are causing smoke conditions on campus and the surrounding area.  The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code orange air quality alert for Mahwah, NJ effective immediately through tomorrow Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
Information on ground-level ozone and fine particles can be found through The NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
Information on air quality forecasts can be found through Air Now.
The campus continues with normal operations.
If you have any questions or concerns, you may reach the Environmental Health and Safety Office at 201-684-7531 (Summer hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 5:15pm).  Students with an on-campus presence who wish to see Health Services should call 201-684-7536.
