Requirements of the Minor
School of Contemporary Arts
Course Descriptions Convener: Roger O. Johnson
NOTE: A school core is NOT required for completion of the minor.
Minors are open to students regardless of school affiliation.
CMUS101 Introduction to Music 3 crs.
CMUS123 Foundations of Music 3 crs.
Two Music in Culture electives* (200 level) 3 crs.
One performance or skills course electives (200 level) ** 3 crs.
One upper level elective *** 3-4 crs.
Minimum: 18-19 crs.
 
*Examples of music in culture electives: History of Jazz, The Black Experience Through Music, Music in the Theater, Music in our Time, Music and Dance/African Diaspora, History of Rock and Roll.
**Examples of performance or skills courses electives: Gospel Chorus, Music Performance, Jazz Improvisation. A composition course such as: Song Writing or Applied Music I and II may be substituted for one performance course.
***Examples of upper level electives: Arts Management-Music, Sound Recording, Electronic and Computer Music
