In Fall 2006, Ramapo College of New Jersey will introduce a new undergraduate curriculum, which results from years of hard work by faculty and staff.

The New Curriculum (also called the Curriculum Enhancement Plan) will strengthen Ramapo’s already considerable reputation as a high-quality college offering programs in liberal arts and professional studies. In particular, it will (1) produce a more consistently rigorous set of courses in General Education and the majors, (2) reinforce the four pillars of our mission (international, interdisciplinary, intercultural, and experiential education), (3) create a teaching-and-learning environment appropriate for a first-rate residential liberal arts college, (4) enhance connections between the liberal arts and professional programs, and (5) continue to attract outstanding faculty and students to the institution.

The College will focus special attention on students who will have started their Ramapo studies before Fall 2006, and who therefore will be combining courses from both the “old” and “new” curricula. The College fully expects our continuing students will be able to complete their graduation requirements in the same timeframe they would have had under their original curriculum.

To help highlight differences between the old and new curricula, the revised requirements of majors are posted on the college web site. When meeting with their advisors before registration for the Winter and Spring 2006 semester, students should come prepared with appropriate questions related to the transition.

The College is enthusiastic about this enhancement of the curriculum and will make every effort to ease the transition for all our students.
