Institute for Environmental Studies
Contact: School of Theoretical and Applied Science (TAS), Building
G, third floor
The Institute for Environmental Studies serves as a focal point
for the many environmentally-related activities of the College.
Its primary goal is to study the complex relationships between
human society and the environment to discover ways to improve
them. Through its sponsorship of seminars, symposia, conferences
and research, the Center promotes environmental education both
to the College and the wider community, and seeks to foster
closer working relationships between government, industrial,
and environmental organizations.
The Institute holds as an underlying philosophy that environmental
problems are interdisciplinary. Thus, a variety of viewpoints
must be brought to bear in seeking solutions. As such, its membership
represents a range of professional interests. Conferences have
included topic areas related to endangered species and
ecosystems, water pollution and supply, chemical hazards in
the home, and sustainable communities. |
