Peter Gorman’s Extraordinary Run at Ramapo
By Rachel Pinton ’01 | Fall 2025
It has always been business first for Peter Gorman ’24, ’25. Whether in the classroom or on the basketball court, Gorman gave his all in every part of his life as a Division III student-athlete.
Gorman started his academic journey at Ramapo in the fall of 2020, but unfortunately, the basketball season was canceled due to COVID-19. During time away from the court, he focused on academics while training to become a strong, dominant player in his first college season.
He quickly became one of the best players to perform under Head Coach Chuck McBreen. As a rookie, he aimed to be the starting point guard, and after earning starts in 18 of the team’s 23 games, he demonstrated early on that he could handle the position. “Pete’s work ethic was second to none! On and off the court, he proved to be a standup guy and fierce competitor,” said McBreen.
Earning just 242 points in his rookie campaign, Gorman quickly joined the 1,000-point scorer club during his third season when he posted a team-leading 416 points. He led the team again in his final season, tallying 617 points and finishing his career with 1,696 points, which ranks him #3 on Ramapo’s all-time leaderboard.
That was just one of the many accomplishments, honors and successes Gorman collected during his tenure at the college. A star in the making as a young newcomer, he grew into a force to be reckoned with as a fourth-year starter and also brought his commitment to service, mentorship and advocacy to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. “He will be sorely missed. He was a great leader with high character. He is a once-in-a-lifetime student-athlete,” McBreen added.
“Give your best in every aspect of your life—school, sports, work. Success is a habit!””

After earning NJAC Rookie of the Week once in 2021-2022, during his second season, he received multiple accolades, including, NJAC Honorable Mention All-Conference after leading the team in scoring with 380 points and CSC Academic All-District honors for his academic excellence. In his third year with the program, he was named to the All-Met Division III First Team, NABC All-District Second Team, NJAC First Team All-Conference and NABC Honors Court. Committing himself both on the court and in the classroom, Gorman was also inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, which honors student-athletes who have earned a varsity letter while maintaining a 3.4 GPA or higher by their junior and senior years.
Gorman dominated the statistical categories on the team and across the conference during his final season. As the leading scorer, Gorman helped the team reach its 19th NJAC Tournament appearance in program history and participate in the NCAA Championship Tournament. He received numerous honors, including, MET Writer’s Division III Player of the Year, MET Writer’s Division III First Team, NABC Second Team All-America and NABC All-District 4 First Team. He was also named to the D3hoops.com Third Team All-America, D3hoops.com Region 4 Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, while earning NJAC Pony Wilson Player of the Year and NJAC First Team All-Conference honors. Earlier in the season, he was named to the D3hoops.com All-Tournament Team and Hampton Inn Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team, and he wrapped up his career representing Ramapo at the NABC Division III All-Star Game—all in just three short months on the court.
Gorman graduated in August 2024 with a degree in accounting and, after continuing his academic journey as a Roadrunner, he completed a Master of Science in accounting this past June. Looking to the future, Gorman’s dream job was to keep playing basketball professionally or work as an accountant at a Big Four firm. As it turns out, one of his dreams came true; shortly after graduation, he started working at Deloitte as a tax consultant. It’s business as usual from here on out.
He advises future Roadrunners: “How you do one thing is how you do everything! Give your best in every aspect of your life—school, sports, work. Success is a habit!”

What are you looking forward to in your first year out of college? Enjoying my Christmas and New Year’s with my family, making money and caring for my body.
My most memorable moment at Ramapo was hitting a buzzer-beater to force overtime against Rowan in my junior year. We ended up winning the game!
