How does studying abroad fit with this major?<\/h4>\n

Studying History allows students to examine the lives and cultures of the past. History expands awareness of other cultures, develops the imagination and helps connect the past to contemporary concerns. Studying abroad as a History major gives students the opportunity of understanding the world\u2019s past in a unique and powerful way.<\/p>\n

Cultures, religions, nations, languages, customs, political systems, societies, economies, and so on can be examined through a new lens unique to a student\u2019s host country. Studying history abroad means living in and with history. Students are encouraged to travel abroad to gain first-hand knowledge of cultures in order to better understand their discipline of study.<\/p>\n

2 credit, Global Field Experience, Spring Break Program
\n<\/i><\/b><\/h5>\n

This program (INTL 130) will provide students with unique opportunities to travel and explore the vibrant and diverse country of Ghana, often recognized as the most stable democracy in Africa. Participants will witness some of the primary sites of the country. In partnership with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, students will engage in cultural and service learning activities.<\/p>\n

During participants visit to Greece, they will go back in time to understand the incredible history of Greece through exploration of the many important sites and ruins. Simultaneously, students will also meet with local peoples to acquire an understanding of the current challenges facing Greece and the many ways in which people at all levels are working to solve these challenges.(INTL 130)<\/p>\n

Glencoe National Park, Scotland<\/p><\/div>\n

“During my semester abroad (Spring 2019) I studied at the University of Edinburgh<\/a><\/strong> in Scotland during my sophomore year and took three history courses that transferred back to Ramapo to fulfill 200-level requirements for my major. Taking classes abroad helped me better understand the historical times I have studied as I was able to visit and experience places for myself, along with learn alongside students who approached historical analysis from a different cultural perspective. I was able to take an American history course which was really eye-opening as I listened to what students in the U.K learned and thought about American history and compare it to how it is taught at Ramapo. The faculty I worked with as well were incredibly knowledgeable about the subjects they taught and were a great resource if I ever had questions or concerns. Studying abroad as a history major I definitely feel more prepared to enter my field of study and have a fueled excitement to explore more of the world as it pertains to different cultures and societies.<\/em>” <\/span><\/p>\n
