Applications for the College Disciplinary Review Board are accepted on a rolling basis. Generally Student Conduct will host training sessions at the beginning of each semester, based on need. Please feel free to email studentconduct@ramapo.edu with any questions.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What is the College Disciplinary Review Board?<\/h4>\n

The Code of Conduct at Ramapo College is based upon the application of policy and procedure and impartial due process. The College Disciplinary Review Board is responsible for hearing cases if an alleged violation of the Code of Conduct may result in a student\u2019s suspension or expulsion of the college. Board members play an active role in listening to all testimony and evidence presented, and they have an opportunity to question all witnesses to gain a better understanding of the issues related to the allegations. If members of the College Disciplinary Review Board decide, through deliberation, that the student(s) is responsible for the allegation(s), they then determine an appropriate sanction. Each board is comprised of five members (three faculty\/staff and two students) and a Board Advisor. All members of the Board must agree to keep all case information in strict confidence.<\/p>\n

Who can serve on the Board?<\/h4>\n

The Board is comprised of Ramapo College faculty, staff and student volunteers.\u00a0 Students must be currently enrolled and have a cumulative GPA above a 2.5 and be in good social standing with the College as determined by the Office of Student Conduct to be eligible.\u00a0 Residence Life Resident Assistant and Student Assistant Residence Directors may not serve on the Board because of the role these positions have in policy enforcement and documentation.<\/p>\n

What are the benefits of being involved with the Board?<\/h4>\n

The College Disciplinary Review Board is a very dynamic exchange.\u00a0 This is a challenging position as well as an opportunity to serve the Ramapo community.\u00a0 Professional development and experiential learning outside of the classroom are additional benefits.\u00a0 This opportunity is ideal (although not limited to) students interested in a Law & Society career.<\/p>\n

What are the time commitments that are involved?<\/h4>\n

Volunteers can select how involved they choose to be on the Board. You may be asked to be a member of a Board several times per semester, but you can serve when it is convenient for you. You will be notified by email about the convening of a Board several days before the hearing. Hearings are scheduled at various times, during business hours\u00a0and on different days of the week depending on the class schedules of the student(s) charged and of the witness(es). A confirmation is then sent back to you if you have been selected to serve on the Board.<\/p>\n

Who are the Board Advisors?<\/h4>\n

Kathleen Hallissey, Director of Student Conduct or Anne Eke, Assistant Director of Student Conduct are the Board Advisor.\u00a0 The Board Advisor is responsible for overseeing the hearing and may comment on questions of procedure and admissibility of information presented.\u00a0 The Board Advisor ensures that the Board follows procedures published in the Student Handbook.<\/p>\n

What does Disciplinary Board training entail?<\/h4>\n

Board members will attend an initial training organized by the Office of Student Conduct. Members will receive a Disciplinary Review Board Manual which will detail procedures for hearings and responsibilities as a Board Member. The Office of Student Conduct will provide on-going training opportunities for members.<\/p>\n
