FIRE SAFETY VIOLATIONS<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The information below is intended to provide broad recommendations for common violations of the Code of Conduct.\u00a0 Factors considered in deciding sanctions include past disciplinary record of the student, the nature of the offense, and severity of any damage, injury, or harm resulting from it as perceived by the victim and\/or appropriate College officials. The (ab)use of alcohol and or other drugs shall be considered an aggravating rather than a mitigating factor.\u00a0 Refer to the Student Code of Conduct (Section O: Sanctions) within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/\">Student Handbook<\/a> for descriptions of common sanctions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"divider\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/rcnjrd\/images\/icons\/ramapo-arch-icom_rule.png\" alt=\"Ramapo\" \/><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><a id=\"s1\"><\/a>A. ALCOHOL VIOLATIONS<\/h3>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Distribution and\/or the sale of alcohol to underage persons will be viewed as an aggravating factor in sanctioning.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Empty Alcohol Containers (including Display and Paraphernalia)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The presence of empty alcohol containers in a living unit, use of empty alcohol containers in a decorative manner or the presence of alcohol paraphernalia is prohibited in housing areas where alcohol is not permitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>1st violation<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0 Official Written Warning<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>2nd violation<\/strong> &#8211; $50 fine<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Subsequent violations<\/strong> for\u00a0 Empty Alcohol Containers (including Display and Paraphernalia),\u00a0 will be subjected to the sanctions for Possession and\/or Consumption of Alcohol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Possession and\/or Consumption of Alcohol<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>1st violation<\/strong> &#8211; one of the following will be issued:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$100 fine and completion of an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/guide\/#s4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online education program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This will be issued\u00a0 when a student is present where an alcohol violation is taking place, even if not actually in possession of or consuming alcoholic beverages at the time of the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>-OR-<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$200 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (online or in-person) and possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>2nd violation<\/strong> \u2013 $400 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (in-person), Probation, possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and possible Suspension of Activities Privileges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>3rd violation<\/strong> \u2013 $800 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (in-person), Disciplinary Probation, Suspension of Activities Privileges, possible Suspension of Residence Privileges, possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and possible Suspension from the College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>4th violation<\/strong> \u2013 possible Suspension of Residence Privileges or possible Suspension from the College and possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Consumption of Alcohol: Intoxicated Students (Transported to the Hospital)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>1st violation<\/strong> \u2013 $200 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (in-person), Probation, possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and possible Suspension of Activities Privileges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>2nd violation<\/strong> \u2013 $400 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (in-person), Suspension of Activities Privileges, Disciplinary Probation, Suspension of Residence Privileges, possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and possible Suspension from the College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>3rd violation<\/strong> \u2013 Suspension or Expulsion from the College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Sanctions for Hosting a Gathering with Alcohol<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>1st violation<\/strong> \u2013 $500 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (in-person), Suspension of Residence Privileges, possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and possible Suspension of Activities Privileges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>2nd violation<\/strong> \u2013 $1,000 fine, participation in an alcohol education program (in-person), Suspension of Activities Privileges, Suspension of Residence Privileges (permanent), possible suspension from the College and possible <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/parental-notification-policy-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parental Notification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Below are some conditions that the college regards as an inappropriate social gathering. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Underage consumption\/possession of alcohol is taking place;<\/li>\n<li>Underage persons are present;<\/li>\n<li>Inappropriate alcohol (kegs and beer balls) is present;<\/li>\n<li>Number of persons presents exceeds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/reslife\/policies-guides-forms\/\">Occupancy Limit for Residence Units Policy<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>managing a guest list and\/or collecting money for entry to the gathering is taking place or has taken place;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A noise violation is taking place or has taken place;<\/li>\n<li>Disorderly\/inappropriate behavior of persons is taking place either inside and\/or outside of the living unit;<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol is transported\/possessed\/consumed within designated Alcohol Prohibited living units;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence to suggest excessive drinking or drinking game(s);<\/li>\n<li>Any law is being violated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The host(s) may be Interim Suspended if any of the above conditions exist or if it is deemed necessary by the responding college official.<\/p>\n<p><em>Policy: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/alcohol-and-other-drug-policy-2\/\">ALCOHOL, CANNABIS, OTHER DRUG, AND GOOD SAMARITAN POLICY<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"toTop\"><a href=\"javascript:scrollTop();\">return to top <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/rcnjrd\/images\/icons\/toTop.png\" alt=\"Return to Top Icon\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"divider\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/rcnjrd\/images\/icons\/ramapo-arch-icom_rule.png\" alt=\"Ramapo\" \/><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><a id=\"s2\"><\/a>B. CANNABIS &amp; OTHER DRUG POLICY VIOLATIONS<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Recommended Sanctions for Cannabis Policy Violations<br \/>\n<\/strong><b>Possession or in the Presence of Cannabis or Cannabis Paraphernalia<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>1st violation<\/strong> \u2013 One of the following sanctions will be issued:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$100\u00a0 fine, referral to an online education program.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This will be issued when a student is present where a cannabis policy violation is taking place, even if not actually in possession of or consuming cannabis or the use or possession of cannabis paraphernalia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>-OR-<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$200 fine, Probation, referral to an online education program, possible Suspension of Activities Privileges, possible Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>2nd violation<\/strong><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013$400 fine, referral to CheckPoint, Disciplinary Probation, Parental Notification, possible Suspension of Activities Privileges, possible Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>3rd violation<\/strong><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013$800 fine, 10 Community Restitution hours, referral to CheckPoint, Disciplinary Probation, Suspension of Activities Privileges, Suspension of Residence Privileges, Parental Notification, and possible Suspension from the College.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>4th violation<\/strong><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 Suspension from the College and Parental Notification.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><em>Policy: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/student-handbook\/alcohol-and-other-drug-policy-2\/\">ALCOHOL, CANNABIS, OTHER DRUG, AND GOOD SAMARITAN POLICY<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Distribution of Cannabis<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>1st violation<\/strong><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 Suspension from the College or possible Expulsion, and Parental Notification.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>2nd violation <\/strong><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013 Expulsion and Parental Notification.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>RECOMMENDED SANCTIONS FOR OTHER DRUG POLICY VIOLATIONS<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b><\/b><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Other Drug Possession\/Possession of Other Drug Paraphernalia<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>1st violation<\/strong><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 One of the following sanctions will be issued:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$150 fine, referral to CheckPoint.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This will be issued when a student is present where a drug policy violation is taking place, even if not actually in possession of or consuming drugs or the use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Evidence must be found that it was more likely than not that a student was not possessing drug paraphernalia or possessing\/consuming other drugs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>-OR-<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$300 fine, 20 Community Restitution hours, Disciplinary Probation, referral to CheckPoint, Parental Notification, possible Suspension of Activities Privileges, possible Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This will be issued when a student is present where a drug policy violation is taking place, even if not actually in possession of or consuming drugs or the use or possession of drug paraphernalia. FIRE SAFETY VIOLATIONS<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Inadvertently activating a fire alarm due to non-cooking related issues:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>For example:\u00a0 use of hair styling tools, aerosol cans or excessive steam from showers.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>1st violation \u2013 Official Warning.<\/p>\n<p>2nd violation \u2013 5 hours of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/guide\/#s3\">Community Restitution<\/a> and completion of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/fire-safety-sanction\/\">Fire Safety Reflection Sanction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>3rd violation &#8211; $100 fine and Probation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Activating a fire alarm due to cooking:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>For example: burnt or overcooked food, excessive smoke from cooking<\/i><\/p>\n<p>1st violation \u2013 $100 fine and completion of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/fire-safety-sanction\/\">Fire Safety Reflection Sanction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2nd violation &#8211; $200 fine, Probation and possible relocation of housing assignment to a residence area without access to a kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>3rd violation \u2013 Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Activating a fire alarm due to a disregard of a published policy:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>For example: smoking in residence halls or the use of candles and incense<\/i><\/p>\n<p>1st violation \u2013 $150 fine and completion of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/fire-safety-sanction\/\">Fire Safety Reflection Sanction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2nd violation &#8211; $300 fine, Disciplinary Probation and possible Suspension of Residence Privileges.<\/p>\n<p>3rd violation &#8211; Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Failure and\/or refusal to immediately evacuate from buildings and\/or endangered areas during a fire alarm:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1st violation &#8211; $100 fine and completion of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/fire-safety-sanction\/\">Fire Safety Reflection Sanction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2nd violation \u2013 $200 fine and Probation.<\/p>\n<p>3rd violation &#8211; Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Tampering with Fire Safety Equipment:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For example: covering smoke detectors, sprinkler heads or other safety equipment.<\/p>\n<p>1st violation \u2013 $500 fine and completion of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/student-conduct\/fire-safety-sanction\/\">Fire Safety Reflection Sanction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2nd violation \u2013 Suspension of Residence Privileges and possible Suspension from the College.<\/p>\n<p class=\"toTop\"><a href=\"javascript:scrollTop();\">return to top <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/rcnjrd\/images\/icons\/toTop.png\" alt=\"Return to Top Icon\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A.
