Witte, Margaret V. Scholarship

“It is my honor to be able to invest in someone’s education in my mom’s name,” says Margaret Mullen, a long-time member of the Friends of Ramapo and member of the Ramapo College Foundation Board of Governors.  Mrs. Mullen lives in Midland Park, N.J., and was elected president of the Friends in 2008.  That same year, Mrs. Mullen created an endowed scholarship fund through a planned giving vehicle: a charitable gift annuity.

“I was moved to participate in the planned giving effort at Ramapo College during the final weeks of 2008 when the financial markets looked bleak,” Mrs. Mullen continues.  “It just seemed like the right moment for me to give a scholarship.”  The Margaret V. Witte Scholarship is named in memory of Mrs. Mullen’s mother and is intended to benefit upperclassmen who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing.

“My Mom had been sick for a long time, and we were both so grateful to the many nurses who helped ease her suffering,” Mrs. Mullen says. “Mom would have been so pleased.”

Deborah Cap

“Being a part of Ramapo College of New Jersey’s RN to BSN program is helping to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse,” says Deborah Cap.  Deborah’s journey into the nursing field began later in her life. After raising a family of her own, she earned her Medical Assistant Certificate.  “Not only did I find every subject fascinating, I earned straight A’s in each subject,” added Deborah.  That achievement was pivotal in helping to propel her onward toward her dream of becoming a nurse. She went on to earn her Associate in Applied Science in Nursing, and since getting her RN license, she has worked as a Charge Nurse in a nursing home and a Wellness Nurse at an assisted living facility. “During my time in the RN to BSN program at RCNJ, I would like to learn more about geriatric nursing and become an advocate for the elderly,” says Deborah.
