Celine Panis-Pardo

Celine Panis-Pardo of Randolph, N.J., is a double major in International Studies and Law & Society. She has a 3.9 GPA, is President of both Phi Beta Delta International Honors Society and the newly developed chapter of Model UN on campus.

At Ramapo, Celine has been part of many organizations throughout her college experience: one of which being the United Asian Association, where she is currently the Internal Vice President. She is also the head photo-editor of the Ramapo News, where she has so far written and published 11 articles on entertainment and cultural issues.

After graduating, Celine hopes to get her Master’s in Social Work and later attend law school, working within non-profit organizations to maximize human rights efforts, particularly within the field of child advocacy and immigration.

Aronsohn, Ernst Memorial Scholarship

Ernst Aronsohn was born in 1917 in the town of Posen, in what is now Poland.  At the onset of World War ll he was in school in Italy, and because of his Jewish faith could not return home to his family, who later perished under the Nazis.  Instead, Mr. Aronsohn went to Denmark to work on a farm with other young Jews displaced by the War.  It was here he met his wife, Erna Meier.  When the Nazis invaded Denmark, the Aronsohns were ferried to Sweden by Danish fishermen.  At the end of the war, they went to Israel.  It was in Israel that Mr. Aronsohn was recruited by the United States to return to Germany to help find Nazi war criminals.

In 1958 the Aronsohns moved to the United States with other Holocaust survivors and settled in Queens, N.Y.  Mr. Aronsohn had a successful career in finance.  After his wife’s death in 1989 Mr. Aronsohn was visiting a friend in Florida.  The friend introduced him to Jane Yanowitz, and they remained constant companions for 25 years.  At Mr. Aronsohn’s death in 2015, the Yanowitz family created this scholarship to honor his memory.

Dwyer, Marie and Francis J. Memorial Scholarship

Francis J. Dwyer worked at Lever Brothers for 29 years, where he was president of Local 51 of the International Chemical Workers. Mr. Dwyer took courses at Ramapo under the auspices of the “Union Leadership Academy,” which at that time was a two-year sequence that offered courses in labor and the economy, labor law and labor history. Mr. Dwyer’s wife, Marie was aware of his deep feelings for the program and shortly after his death in 1982 established this scholarship fund in his memory. Mrs. Dwyer continued to meet with Dwyer Scholarship recipients and attend Ramapo events until her death in 2003. Because Frank Dwyer was particularly interested in labor relations, the Dwyer scholarships benefit high-achieving upperclassmen who are majoring in social sciences and have an interest “in effecting social change.”

Tarallo, Angelo Memorial Scholarship

The Angelo Tarallo Scholarship is awarded to students interested in working in law, international business, or international studies. Recipients must demonstrate competence in writing, which was one of Professor Tarallo’s many interests.

Angelo Tarallo was a beloved professor who taught at Ramapo for more than 10 years. During a distinguished international business career at The BOC Group, Professor Tarallo held a number of positions including chief executive-legal affairs in Windlesham, UK and president and board director in Murray Hill, NJ where he also served as chairman of the Pension Committee. While at BOC, Mr. Tarallo taught at Ramapo as an adjunct professor in Business. He joined the full-time faculty in 2002 and inspired students and colleagues with his intellect and dedication to education.

In addition to teaching, Angelo Tarallo led study abroad programs in Italy and arranged for international co-operative placements for Ramapo students. After Mr. Tarallo’s death in 2003, his family, friends and colleagues established this scholarship program to recognize students who embody his commitment to academic excellence and internationalism.
