Caleb Herbst

Caleb Herbst

While still in high school, River Edge resident Caleb Herbst served as a student representative to the Board of Education, and later decided to run for a position on the Board.  After that experience, he decided that he wanted to use his knowldege to aid the students in his home town.  “I consider my Board of Ed candidacy one of my proudest accomplishments since it taught me so much about the political process firsthand at the age of eighteen,” said Caleb.

The freshman is fittingly a Political Science major.  He is also a member of the Ramapo Honors Program.

At Ramapo, Caleb belongs to the Leaders in Service program and the Civic and Community Engagement Center.  In Leaders in Service, he volunteered at a nursing home and helped to create a hiking trail in New York.  With the CCEC, Caleb has volunteered to tutor in Teaneck, a continuation of his tutoring efforts in high school.

After graduation, Caleb is considering going to law school.  He hopes to work in government one day, because he feels that the problems the world faces can be solved if everyone comes together and listens to each other.

“I owe where I am today to my family,” says Caleb, who adds, “My mother, father, and stepfather have always encouraged me to do my best, and my brother is always right there by my side.”
