Ramapo College Offers Active Shooter Training Sessions<\/h2>\n

Ramapo College cares for the safety of students, staff, and bystanders. To ensure the procedure is met the school offers a training session designed to prepare the campus community for emergency situations, including active shooter incidents. These sessions educate participants on the Run, Hide, Fight<\/strong> protocol, situational awareness, communication procedures, and how to respond effectively when law enforcement arrives.<\/p>\n

Active Shooter Response<\/h2>\n

During an active shooting it’s vital to know the procedure, respond quickly and calmly to protect yourself and those around you. The most recognizable options to consider are Run<\/strong>, Hide<\/strong>, and Fight<\/strong><\/p>\n

Options to Consider<\/h3>\n

Run:\u00a0\"Running <\/strong><\/h4>\n
    \n
  • Identify the location(s) of the threat;<\/li>\n
  • Assess your situation to plan an escape route;<\/li>\n
  • Quickly escape via doors, stairs, windows, etc.;<\/li>\n
  • Leave belongings behind;<\/li>\n
  • Keep running until you reach a safe area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Hide:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

      \n
    • Hide in an area out of the shooter\u2019s view;<\/li>\n
    • Block entry to hiding places and lock doors;<\/li>\n
    • Turn off lights and close window blinds;<\/li>\n
    • Silence mobile devices and stay quiet;<\/li>\n
    • Remain vigilant and assess your options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Fight:\"Fighting<\/strong><\/h4>\n

      • If confronted, fight for your life;<\/li>\n
      • Search for objects to use as weapons;<\/li>\n
      • Commit to decisive and aggressive action;<\/li>\n
      • Fight until the threat is neutralized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Put down any items in your hands (i.e., bags, cell phone);<\/li>\n
        • Keep hands up, open, and visible at all times;<\/li>\n
        • Avoid quick movements toward officers such as holding on to them for safety;<\/li>\n
        • Follow responders\u2019 instructions when evacuating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

          Remain vigilant, consider your options, and stay safe!<\/h4>\n

          • Pay attention to emergency alerts and notifications;<\/li>\n
          • Report suspicious activity and individuals;<\/li>\n
          • Identify the two nearest exits in any facility you visit;<\/li>\n
          • Help others if you are able to do so safely;<\/li>\n
          • If you are in a secure location, stay there until law enforcement clears the area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
