Canvas Learning Management System Resources for Students

TO:        All Students

FROM:  Stefan Becker, Provost

Dear Students:

Over the Spring 2020 semester, Ramapo will be transitioning from Moodle to Canvas, a more dynamic, robust, and user-friendly learning management system (LMS). Canvas will be live this semester, and you may notice some of your courses will be in Canvas already. While Moodle will still be available in Spring 2020, and while some of your courses may still exist in Moodle this term, Canvas will become the sole LMS of the College from Summer 2020 onward.

To support you in this transition, please make use of the several resources listed below. I highly encourage you to watch the videos, take the self-paced courses, and download the app: by familiarizing yourself with Canvas, you will set yourself up for a positive and productive learning experience.

The Student Experience (18 min.)
This video will provide new students the basics to getting started in Canvas with their personal settings, course layout and communication, and submission feedback functionality.

Canvas Student Tour (35 min.)
This Canvas course contains self-paced series of videos to familiarize students with Canvas (including profile, communication, discussions, assignments, grades, quizzes, and more). When students login to Canvas they will see the “Canvas Student Tour” course on their dashboard.

Passport To Canvas
This self-paced Canvas course provides everything students need to know about using Canvas in your classes. Learn about communication tools, navigation, assignments, quizzes, discussion, grades and feedback, peer interactions, and the mobile app. When students login to Canvas they will see the “Passport to Canvas” course listed in the announcements at the top of their dashboard.

You can also download the Canvas Mobile App for Students (iOS and Android) to access your courses anywhere.

Questions? Contact your faculty member or the IDC. Thank you for engaging in the transition to Canvas. Best wishes for a successful semester.

P.S. As the College will continue to have access to Moodle during the Spring 2020 term, access online resources for Moodle here.
